2002 Jaguar XK8 - Half Shaft Universal Joint Repair Replace
Hello All.
I'm getting, and have been getting, a significant clunk when engaging gears - especially when I shift the car into R from P (I installed the TransGo Valve a few weeks ago think it would help this - help GREATLY with smoothing shifting). It seems to be mostly, if not only, from the LH right rear wheel. I got some new tires the other day and the guy let me wander around under the car a bit (i dream of a lift some day) and I noticed that the LH lower shock mount/bush is completely toast - Im looking to replace shocks soon. Thanks to Bob (aka MotorCarMan) for providing the quick GO at replacing the rear shocks by removing the 4 rear subframe/ bottom control arm bolts TO differential to get an advantage at removing the shocks!
Q: will the TOAST lower shock mount cause the symptom of a CLUNK when shifting from P to R and from R to D?
I really dont know a sure fire way of diagnosing a failed U Joint(s) on a half shaft set up on the XK8... Especially when there are 4 of them. Any suggestions?
And, important question. Can the half shafts be removed using a jack and jack stands? Does the rear end need to be dropped for access?
Is there a process for the universals??? I looked around on line and wasnt able to find a blow by blow for the x100.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated...
