2002 xkr question
Question for you x100 experts. I am looking at a 2002 xkr for sale. Seller says it has the 4.2 engine, but I understood those didn't come in until 2003. (He is in a different city so trying to sort this out before going over to see it.) So...could he be right? We're in Canada if that helps. Thanks.

If you ask for the VIN number and go to https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topi...cle/lookupForm and look it up it will tell you the engine type fitted.

I've seen that mistake in listings on occasion. Model Year 2002 had the 4.0 with a mercedes transmission. 2003 started the 4.2 with, I think, a zf transmission.
Could be an honest mistake.
On a side note, the 20-30 extra horsepower from the 4.2 is a lot more meaningful for the XK8 performance metrics than for the XKR. Somehow, at least from what I've seen, the XKR had about the same performance with 4.0 v. 4.2.
One thing I really like about the 4.2 is the throwback to the 60's e-type, which also had a 4.2 engine.
Similarly, there wasn't much of a performance enhancement back in the 60s when Jaguar increased the e-type to a 4.2.
Could be an honest mistake.

Unless I am misreading this the 4.0 to the 4.2 in the XK8 (not XKR) is only 4 more HP. 20-30 more HP is incorrect.

Thanks...yeah I notice that the pictures show the "2, 3, 4" down the left side of the J-gate rather than "2, 3, 4, 5", which I think seals it as well.
