2003 XK8 convertable Fuel Pump resources
Okay, my fuel pump finally took a crap and I need to replace it. There seems to be plenty of information on this forum as well as other sites that describes how to do the job. The problem that I have is where should I buy my fuel pump from? I have seen prices from $59 on eBay to $900 at internet parts suppliers.
What should I expect to pay for a new fuel pump and where is a reputable location to purchase it from?

Replacement fuel pumps for the 4.0 engine cars are relatively inexpensive and plentiful on the aftermarket. However, that is NOT the case for replacement fuel pumps for the 4.2 engine cars (2003 to 2006). The proper assemblies typically go for $500 or more (and that was pre-pandemic). What are SNG Barratt Group and Welsh Enterprises selling them for nowadays?
Per my SNG Barratt Group parts catalog, after VIN A30645 the fuel pump assembly part number for an XK8 is C2N1146...

My car Is VIN # 32158, so part number C2N1146 should work. Does it matter whether it's a convertible or a coupe?

The 2003 4.2 Fuel Pump sets in the Gas Tank....There is only (1) Fuel Pump in the 2003 XK8/XKR and it cost around $750.00 or more new....Good Luck to you, as I have put 4 of them in my 2005 XKR over the last several years....I couldn't find a better way to replace it other than getting a new one..........They are expensive m Friend!

Don’t feel too bad Billy, there are many motorcycle fuel pumps from the 1980’s thru 2010’s that are aging out and are just as expensive. I’ve had to tell many a poor soul that his motorcycle that’s only worth $2,000 needs an $800 fuel pump plus $200 labor.
Then I take a step back and watch the 10 stages of grief play across their face.

I got lucky on my once (false alarm) with my fuel pump and during that time a member and I had a short set of exchanges about the possibility of a replacement pump (possibly from a Ford vehicle) that also uses a PWM power type....
Maybe this thread can take the opportunity to explore options and alternatives???
In that, the bucket is removed and IF (a big if) the alternative fuel pump fit the hole the OEM fits exactly (snuggly), GREAT. And if not then one could just poke two small holes in the side of the bucket and strap the alternate pump to and in the ol bucket - which makes ALL kinds of sense to me.
There has to be a PWM alternative pump out there that could probably be had for less than 1000BUCKS and made to work.... No? Walbro Pumps?
What would be the obstacles as y'all see it/them?

Hello Smokey,
Your 2003 XK8 and the XKR were the 1st Year of the 4.2 Liter Engine. The Fuel Pump for this Model is in the Gas Tank and the cheapest one I have found here on the internet is around $650.00...
I have replaced my F/P 4 times now and have finally found the problem with the Pump....The Wiring on the Top of the Tank gets loose! This last time, I soldered all the contacts to make sure of a good connection and have not had any problems since...You might want to try this......Hopefully, you can take advantage of my problems and save some money in the future.....I don't know but you might be able to do this to your current Pump and it might start up again....It's just the connections....and it might save you all that money! Let me know if this works for you as they are asking way to much money for these Pumps.....Of course though, I don't know nothing!
