2003 xk8 convertible at auction - thoughts on price ??
Howdy,
Swung by the auction site where this vehicle is being auctioned, description is pretty accurate, interior is really nice/clean, tires brand new, holds a straight line when breaking. Worst issue is some solar oxidation in a few spots, really weird how nice paint looks in most places but there is an issue on rear driver quarter panel about the size of a silver dollar and another spot on the beam between the windshield and convertible top.

Anyhow, if you were in a market for an 03 xk8 convertible up to what price would you enter your max bid?
thanks

Hmmmm, hard to say as I'm not a wheeler dealer type. However, I hate spending too much. You could ride along on the auction and see were it goes. I might drop out a 5-6k if it goes up fast. It does look good though. Love those wheels. I don't know your situation but it might be worth a shot. All depends on what your willing to spend. If it drives well you could just deal with the issues as you can. and enjoy. .02 TM

Hmmm - looks nice but my first thoughts:
- front end looks low and at 102k on the clock -probably going to need new front shock mounts & bushings
- no pics of engine bay - would give a visual on upper shock mounts and condition as well as any evidence of bulging coolant lines that may need replaced
- says only driven spring/summer for 10 years - car is 18 years old - has it sat idle for the last 8 years - if so - potential for dry rot of gaskets, hoses, rubber, etc. If it's been driven, has it been driven like it was stolen?
- has transmission fluid been flushed/replaced?
Car looks to be decent condition that I'd probably go no more than 7k

I had a similar one that I had to part with a few years back. I miss the car.

I asked about the gaps and apparently the seller bought it in 2010 so he drove it spring/summer for 10 years. Auctioneer said seller was not sure how the first owner drove it but when he got the vehicle in 2010 it had 53k miles on it, so over 10 more years added 49k so 2nd owner drove it about 5k miles per year which sounds right for spring and summer only.
Appreciate the tips on front end and radiator hoses.

A couple of thoughts on this one.
1. Why isn't the air bag panel a mirror match to the center panel next to it? I could be wrong but every factory installed panel I've seen are mirrored matches (its late, I'm trying to describe the effect of cutting a figured piece of wood down the center. When you lay the pieces next to each other the figure (natures designs in the wood) continue across as thought mirrored)
2. Why so much rust on the spare wheel? Fyi, Jaguar gave the purchaser the option of a steel spare or a 5th wheel same design.
3. I'm not familiar with the button showing rear wheels sliding hazard. I have Trac Off button in mine. In 1998, Trac Off was an option that expanded anti skid controls a bit.. (individual activation of each wheels brake as needed, control of engine timing and fuel delivery to control stability) If Track Off button continued through all years, this car doesn't have that option. Certainly not make or brake for me, but its sure nice to have if you've got 2 or 3 inches of snow.
4. Car has premium stereo.
5. Car has heated seats.
6. Your call on the color, a couple of hundred for proper polishing needed IMO.
7. Leather in real nice shape - especially the steering wheel.
I'm thinking the $5 to $7,000 range too. Hope it helps.
