2003 XKR Portfolio???

Good Morning Graham. Thank you
The car that I'm looking at says manufacturer date 8/2003. I had come to understand that the stamped manufacturer date doesn't necessarily determine the year of the car in some cases... I'm just hoping to get a better sense of what I'm looking at here. Here's the tag. I mean,,, could this be one of those rare portfolio cars?

JayJagJag,
Jaguar made 200 Portfolio Convertibles in 2004, 100 Coronado Blue and 100 Jupiter Red....They all had Recaro Seats with Boxmark Leather inserts and 20" BBS "Detroit" Wheels. Hopefully that will help! This Door post looks like it's Coronado Blue, which JJS is Coronado Blue Metallic. Now it has to have Recaro Seats with the Leather inserts...If it does, there is a good chance it's a Portfolio...As you said, the door date doesn't mean the year of the car....My 2005 was made in 2004....

It DID have Recaro seats,,, the base of the front seats destroyed in the flood... The backs of the front seats are find,,, the back seat set is fine and yes,,, the door cards have the blue inserts...
I'm super excited but confused about the dates...

Well! Yes and No! It's still the same......
200!!! Would be an amazing thing if this was one in 200,,, one in 100,,,of the Coronado Blue variety...! The thing that's confusing me is the 8/03 manufacturer date... Can a car manufactured in 2003 be considered a 2004?

Jayjagjay….
That was when the Body was made but the Car wasn't finished out until 2004. all the 2006 Cars were made in 2005. If you will look at a 2003, which probably has a Built in 2002 on some the early ones it's label would say 2002. The Portfolio was made for the 2004 Model year, which as you know did not have the side strip running down the sides. The Interior, paint and Wheels were all part of the build-out for the Portfolio. I am sure the VIN will reflect that it is a 2004....You may still be able to get Portfolio Interior Parts from Jaguar.
I'm attaching a shot of my 2005's Label to show you that it was started in 2/2004 and is definitely a 2005...
A word of warning.....Be careful if it is a Flood Car...remember anything below the Flood-line has been wet! and anything Electronic will probably have to be replaced....

The Jaguar Model Year (MY) used to begin in late August/early September after the factory holiday shutdown. During this shutdown period, new features could be introduced on the line without disrupting the production run. Hence the 2004 MY commenced production in 2003.
This chaos continued until 2014 when Model Year and Calendar Year were finally aligned in January ........ but that meant the 2015MY was introduced in January 2014. My 2014 XK, built in April is a 2015MY.
To add further to the confusion, I understand vehicles imported to the US are registered with effect from when they clear Customs. Several members have 2006 correctly documented XK8/XKR even though the last XKR came off the production line on 27th May 2005.
We don't have MFD DATE displayed on UK vehicles. Logic suggests the date displayed on the US manufacturer sticker will be the date the body is assembled. Given that it took less than thirty hours for an XK8 to go through the production process, it's not going to make a big difference exactly when the date is applied.

Thank you,,, Bill,,, Graham. Many thanks!
Thanks for all of the super helpful info! I've been working on this car for a month or so,,, and didn't even know what I was working on...
Beautiful car, Bill. Thanks for the photos...
About the car having gone for a swimm!
Yes Bill, thanks for the warning. I went in fearing the worst. At this point, and I know driving her around will reveal new THINGS,,,, it's not as bad as I might have thought. Any module or contraption that couldn't drain because of its design (basically a plastic container) is toast. The door lock actuators,,, the reversing module (replaced and working), the flap control actuators under the dash for the HVAC toast --- but most everything else has come back to life and things are going well. Also, the PWM signal to the fuel pump doesn't seem to be working no matter what I do.
Don't know about the active restraint gizmo under the center console. I have a replacement.
SCLM I've replaced and it's working correctly - so far. The doors won't actuate due to the locking actuators being fried. I have an aftermarket product on the way. We'll see.
At the auction house, someone, ravaged the top framing, removed about 6 of the hindge pins, but I'm getting that back together now... They are HARD to find but the folks at Jaguar Heaven might have them,,, or I will make them myself... Need a new convertible pump. I'll have that soon. The trans was flooded, but I've run about 24 liters of new fluid thru it and it SEEMS normal. Can't know just yet. The base (*** part) of the Ricaro seats were ruined, but the backs and all of the rear seats are fine! I have a guy here (great upholsterer) says with the old ones as a guide he can reproduce the bases...
Not much else, so far, all doable. Or so it seems.
Fingers crossed!
Thanks for passing on your wisdom and knowledge, Guys. Really!
