Unhappy 2004 xk8, ERROR CODES: P0706 & P0825! Serious issues?

GEEZ, my xk8 base conv., 60,500 mi. just had two ‘left sensors’ replaced ($450 total)… [car ALSO needs a/c repairs @$900-$1k, + Engine Coolant Low dash error code, ANOTHER sensor?
THEN, I got word from mechanic putting in sensors that “there are TWO ERROR CODES” showing.
(hmmm, this car is on the verge of royally p*ssing me off! Repairs adding up… but I LOVE the performance. She’s running very good, strong, fast, tight, agile… )

Error Code: P0706 (generally “Transmission Fault code’”, check engine light ON, several causes.
& Error Code: P0825 (generally ‘Powertrain Control Module’ (PCM) failure… Gear Lever, switch, +)
(I figure I won’t list examples of causes unless asked.)

My main questions are:

1) Recommended NOT to drive the vehicle with error code?! (I just came back from 300 mi. R/t, car ran fine, imo. AND, I pretty much need to use. Really can’t drive?

2) Any idea if expensive fixes?

[ASIDE: : I think I’m on my 4-5th SENSORS that needed replaced over two yrs. ‘Garage’ said: “it’d not just your car or Jags, ALL cars have sensors failing.” Made me feel a lil better…]

3) I sorta assume Jag sensors & labor cost more? (cost: parts @ $320, 1.5 hrs. ($95 ea.) labor $143, total: $463 “replace both left side O2 sensors”.

ANY Opinions on the “left” sensors explanation, & cost?” The codes have a LARGE range of causes.
My concern is needing a tranny at 60k?

im going to try a new garage that has ‘Jaguar specialists’. My indie mechanic does a pretty good job on the jags. But, no Jaguar software & seems these codes are over his capabilities.

thnx,

Now you have noted them, clear the codes and see if they recur.

Both show a potential common cause in the linear switch, so a good place to start if they do:

It may just be an adjustment.

Seems unusual for both upstream and downstream HO2 sensors to be replaced at the same time, but I guess they could have failed separately...

REPLY: THNX for reply & info. I’m not very mechanically inclined…I used to be a bit. I don’t have code reader. Wonder why ‘my mechanic’ didn’t clear? (Tho they didn’t notice dash error ‘engine coolant low’… been for 2 yrs.) I think there was ONE sensor needed, then when taken in needed 2. I’m leery of taking a “transmission codes” to new garage (to me, they’ve been in biz years). But, they have Jaguar equipment, can d/L software updates (1 of the common failures on these 6 sp. Trans.). I’ll look he diagram. Thnx again.

Having an appropriate OBDII scanner for these cars is an absolute requirement....

REPLY: yeah, I sorta figured good to have. I was gonna get once, then I think colder weather happened. Scanner can clear codes?
Can you recommend one? I just hope that after these next couple days items are fixed, that this cat will settle down & just drive! She’s a solid, firm driver. If further repairs, then I’ll go back to an xj series… 1986 – 2016. (‘86 xj6 I had was reliable, mostly general maintenance. Xk8’s, 4 a/c parts failed (not fix yet), at least 4 sensors, the two error codes, (oil changes, tires I don’t count, but man, new ones made a difference!)
Thnx for the input!

FYI: looking to buy:
ANCEL AD410 Enhanced OBD II Vehicle Code Reader Automotive OBD2 Scanner ANCEL AD410 Enhanced OBD II Vehicle Code Reader Automotive OBD2 Scanner

Overall, seems good, reads & clears codes, 98% of cars… (I checked the obd thread, but didn’t see ‘04 xk8… I coulda missed it tho.
(off topic: ‘searching’ seems to get worse. I searched to go on eBay, put in criteria and MANY search returned products were NOT what I searched for. So, still end up wading thru garbage & inevitably ez to miss some info, & a mistake in ordering will happen. And sites will put ‘sponsored’ products up front no matter what the search was. The PLOY of cheap price, often $0-$1… but in small print “+ $6 shipping” (Amazon big on that.)
thanx again.

He may have done so. That was my bad assuming you had a code reader.
There are several to choose from:- even a cheap ELM327 clone to work with your phone would help as a starter.

Hey, I pretty much went w/your view! But, they didn’t say they did & I don’t recall asking. Code scanner comes Monday. That’d be great to clear them.
thnx,
