2004 XKR Mod Project

Rob,
The car looks great, I really like the hood scoops. I am surprised that you still pay so much attention to it now that you have the f-type. But, I don't blame you, there is something special (shall we say "classic") about these cars. I am probably picking up a newer 5 liter XKR in the next few weeks, but I still plan on my 2002 vert being my everyday driver; I just like it too much.

Saw your engine, it is really sharp and yes this is that new cover. I swapped for the earlier model I had.

Bummed me out.
I just ordered two of the new small covers from Chris. One to paint body color for shows and he had one covered in black vinyl he gave me a good price on. Hope it gets her soon!! He was trying to explain how you installed yours since you deleted you rear set as well. I hope mine fit.

rain
what happened was the paint shop had put off installing the right one until the day I picked the car up and it was raining hard. When they bolted the back side on it put too much stress on the still wet glue and the rain didn't help so it pulled apart. What was funny is I'd given them an extra week to install them in the first place. The fix took a day. Guess I wasn't a high priority...

Hey Rob,
Why don't you plan on coming down for next year's Queen's English Car Show (this year's was last weekend) with your car (or cars). Great turnout, phenomenal cars, and we've got plenty of room if you want to stay. I'm sure all of the forum members from So Cal would love to see your XKR in person, and a lot of us turned out for the show (see Queen's English Car Show post). As an added incentive, since I know your other passion is reporting on hi tech issues, I'll put your car in our first fully automated parking garage and we can film it going through the paces. We're starting our first commercial structure next month at a famous Los Angeles landmark building.

That'd be fun

If you remember next year shoot me a reminder as that would make for a fun trip. Likely depends if I've moved to Bend by that time (bought a house there). But appreciate the offer.
This is a walk though of the house in Bend (we are going to modify it a bit so there are no furnishings yet). It has an impressive garage.

Thanks!
Wouldn't Bend be a bit of a hike for you? We probably need someone local (but have had issues getting a designer we like), we've run down a local crew though we haven't let any contracts yet. Our tastes run to extremely contemporary. Bend is 9 hours from here probably close to 17 for you.

I do it because I love it, I actually make my income from our income properties, but I keep a lot of guys working, and I consider it my artwork. Recently did some work in Grover Beach (Pismo), and took the time to play some great golf courses up there as well. But, the offer is meant more as if there is anything that I can offer in terms of my experience even if you have local people, I'd be more than happy to help. I just really enjoy the artistic aspect, plus the before and after and the look of the faces of clients when a project is finished. The feeling is priceless. Congratulations on your purchase.

Expensive Mod but now I am Batman!
OK this is kind of a cool mod but not for the faint of heart. I've installed a front facing military grade FLIR Infrared camera and new Kenwood 991 head unit (glass screen, full apps, wireless connectivity, in-car hot spot, etc.). In addition I've had Thundercat lighted bins put in the back seat and changed out the backup sensors for an Alpine in camera system (where it actually shows how close you are to things instead of just beeping). The camera alone lists for about $5K. Strangely the car doesn't feel any faster but suddenly I'm wondering where I could get car fired ground to ground rockets (kidding NSA, just kidding). Only downside is I'll likely have to go back to school to learn to use this beast. It was installed by a military tech for me.
