P1316 could be:
P1316
NOTE: This DTC will flag only
when accompanied by an
individual cylinder misfire DTC:
P0300 – P0308
ECM to ignition coil primary circuit fault
(Cylinder misfire detected DTC also
flagged)
Fuel injector circuit fault(s)
(Injector DTCs also flagged)
Ignition coil failure
Spark plug failure / fouled / incorrect gap
Cylinder compression low
Fuel delivery pressure (low / high)
Fuel injector(s) restricted / leaking
Fuel injector(s) continuously open
Fuel contamination
Worn camshaft / broken valve spring(s)

on a 2005 number 6 is the second from the back on the right hand side, looking from the front. (or third back from the front, as you correctly assumed!)
up to 2002.5 MY
Back of engine
4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5
2002.5 MY on
Back of engine
7 8
5 6
3 4
1 2
Bank 1 is LHS from the front.
swap a couple of coils (specifically swap 6 and 2 to move to the other end of the bank), see if the problem moves. The two cylinders at the back on bank 2 (6 and 8 on your engine) are susceptible to both water ingress from the coil cover (there's a hole to let the coil wiring through which nobody seems to mention!), and it seems like vacuum leaks as well.
Check your fuel trims, if you find they're high on bank 2 you may well have a leak specific to that side, in which case I'd guess (since the same thing happened to me) that the partial load breather, or something else on that side, has a leak.
don't discount bad replacement coils either, I had a brand new pair of coils which died very quickly.

OK.....just got the car back from a local independent Jaguat specialist.
As anticipated, she didn't misbehave when at the garage, however the mechanic has carried out continuity tests on the engine wiring harness and everything checks our 100% OK.
Having double checked the coils and plugs, he's also confirmed that all's good there as well.
As a last resort he's switched the injectors between 6 and 8 and gave them a quick clean in the process, so if the fault returns I can check if the code switches to cylinder 8, which should identify the issue.......total invoice for two hours work £156.....pretty good I thought.
I gave the car a "frisky" drive on the 15 mile drive home and she purred as one would hope........fingers crossed.
However, just as one mystery hopefully gets resolved, another one has appeared on the way home with an airbag warning code with a 5-1 flashing light code.....oh joy!
I've already found the forum trail on this, so I might here from some of you amazingly helpful and knowledgable subscribers on that link.
Thanks everyone for your help....much appreciated
