Default 2006 XK8 Door Module

I need to find out if this repair is possible for the shade tree mechanic. I have a 2006 XK8 convertible The passenger door module is bad. The symptoms are the window does not automatically go down when opening or closing the door. The parts at a local repair shop are $750 and $378 plus $990 for labor. They claim its a 6 hour job. Any positive advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How do you know that you have a faulty passenger door module? How was that diagnosed?

Failing batteries often cause window misbehavior in these cars. So do failing microswitches in the door latch assembly....

Have you done a window reset procedure? To do so, lower the window all the way down and hold the switch button until you hear an audible click. Then raise the window all the way up and hold the switch button until you hear an audible click. Do this for both windows. When you do the passenger window reset, do it from the passenger door window switch, NOT the master window switch on the drivers door....

I try to remember to do this simple window reset procedure in my wife's 2006 XK8 every month or so. Works for me....

It's more often the microswitchs inside the door lock that are the problem not the actual module itself. Regardless it's much cheaper to replace one of th emicroswitches then spending nearly a thousand on a new module. Omron do a switch for about £7 or so. The window does not close automatically, if the reset procedure allows it to open with one touch you will be good.

Norri,

My guess is that he meant to type ..."the window does not automatically go down when opening or closing the DOOR..."

Hello, I took it to a local shop who said the diagnostic codes indicated it needed both the module and the microswitch. $750 for the module and $378 for the switch and $990 labor. I have done the reset several times and so did the repair shop to no avail. I will try it on that side as I have done it from the drivers master switch. Thanks for that tip.

That shop is hosing you big-time. Search this forum using the phrase "XK8 door latch microswitch repair" and spend an hour or two reading about this subject. These very inexpensive microswitches are almost always the problem, NOT the door module itself....

You are being fleeced. The microswitch is a £7 part and isn't all that hard to install. I doubt the module is faulty. You could try and swap the part yourself and see if that fixes the problem. This is the part you will need, https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDeta...bmV1GL5XiBIQ== You will need to bend the metal tab to the same shape as the original. There are three microswitches inside so you will see which one is broken when you open it up. There are some good tutorials on this forum.
