2006 XKR Pre Purchase Inspection
Hello all, I believe I am getting close to signing on the dotted line for a
2006 XKR Victory Edition.
I just received the inspection report for the Jaguar dealer. In this case the car has been serviced from new through two owners at this dealer.
Here is my question. The driver side headlight has condensation in it. The Jag dealer suggests replacing the whole headlight assembly. I was reading posts about this and it seems there is a much less costly fix to this. The only thing is, the fix seems to be only to 2004. I am guessing the drill mod would work on this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The headlight was the only issue they found. they did a cooling system pressure test and it was fine. A button is missing on the dash for the GPS certainly no deal breaker.
I will put the needed info in my signature when I take ownership.

Condensation in the headlamps was never resolved on the XK8/XKR and still affects the Final Series / Victory models.
I know of three TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) on this issue and there may be more.
The 'fix' is to drill a hole and fit a Tee Piece vent pipe (Part Number LJE 4133AA ) to the headlamp shell:
Although this can reduce the condensation and misting, it doesn't entirely eliminate it. The TSB's suggest replacing the headlamp in the case of serious customer complaint.

The easiest fix is to pop off the two plastic oval hatches that allow bulb access, park the car in the sun for a few hours (or blast it with a hair dryer) until the condensation evaporates, snap the two hatches back into place, and you're good to go until the next time you need to do this. My wife's 2006 XK8 requires this procedure three or four times per year. The vast majority of the time, her headlamps stay dry. I'm sure it depends on your particular weather conditions....
