i have two 275-50-17 drag tires on the way. they are 28" tall. it has 255 19" atlas wheels at the moment. it is a 2005 jaguar xk8. will they fit without rubbing n stuff?
I have Detroit’s with brand new 285/30 tyres and these are 26.85 inch rolling diameter. So your 28inch Drag tyres are only 0.57 inch larger in radius.
The closest point of contact in the rear archway is the Subframe mounting bracket and this is currently about 1 inch clear.
The main concern is the offset of your chosen 17inch Drag wheels. They will need to be 9j or 10j and also clear your brake Calipers. I don't know if Jaguar ever made them? An increase offset (from your current Atlas) could foul the upper wheel arch lip (when bottoming out suspension), and a decrease could foul the Mounting bracket (see pic). So to ensure clearance, you need to target the same offset as current 10J Jag rear wheels (Detroit, Sepang, Montreal, Perseus).
the options on backspacing are 5 and 5.47. the offset is either 0mm 0r 12mm
its a 17x9. thank you for the response and info! il try to find the specs on the xk8's backspacing and offset
so it looks like i will need some hub centric rings. so the zero offset looks a bit riskier but i think some lip looks good in the back. for some reason its hard to conceptualize the measurements would i be ok ordering the zero or should i go for the 12 mm for safety?.
Agree that it is very hard to conceptualize.
The problem with Offset is that it needs to be in the correct direction and not seeing a simple symbol (+ or -) on a spec gets me wary when committing big money. If I was you, I would take time out to do a cross section sketch. Measure the hub position relative to surroundings, Get everything down on paper and the decision should be easier to make.
Obviously, you can use Spacers to bring the wheel outwards but this is a one-way adjustment that you need to plan for.
When in doubt, target the same offset that is on your 9J rear OEM Atlas wheels.
