Does anyone know the torque specs for the intake manifold bolts? And the sequence for tightening? I need to replace the heater hoses under the intake but I don't want to crack the plastic manifold while I'm at it.
How difficult a job is this? I am thinking of renewing the manifold seals and heater hoses soon. I have some worries about screwing up the throttle cable stuff when removing the throttle body.
Also, good to know Gus's resource largely accords with my alldatadiy manual on this. The official book on Gus's website says 21 nm, alldata says 20-22. Am I correct in not seeing a sequence for the V8 engine intake manifold bolts?

More laborious than difficult. The throttle cable shouldn't cause you any grief, although I see JTIS shows the cable adjustment is slightly different for the 97? No need to separate the TB elbow from the manifold.

Replace the tee (NNE3944BA) and consider the crossover pipe (AJ85885) also. Can't remember if you have the aluminium thermostat tower?

JTIS also says 20-22. I would go for the lower figure unless you're using new bolts, but I doubt the 1Nm is material either way.

Hmmm.... My Tbird shop manual shows a torque sequence for removing/installing the intake bolts. The Tbird has the AJ30 Jag engine (AJ26/27 variant). See below. I would assume that there would be a sequence for the Jag engine as well.

If the inlet manifolds are the same then I see no reason why the Ford wouldn't work, although the torque figure at 25Nm is higher than Jaguar's. Your call.
Very strange. The variation between Ford's specs & Jag's is disturbing. I'll definitely go with the lower torque specs IAW with Jag's recommendations. Since Jag doesn't list any sequence for tightening or loosening I'll follow the Ford sequence & hope for the best. Perhaps it doesn't matter but these plastic parts are impossible to replace and the last thing I need is to trash one as a result of stupidity.
It is frustrating:- I looked the first (and second) time I had the intake off and found nothing, so just worked diagonally across from middle to outer.
There was nothing for the supercharged cars either.

I think they don't show a sequence to tighten the intake manifold because it doesn't matter. Each cylinder has it own seperate gasket, not a one piece gasket. They show a sequence for the exhaust manifold because it is one piece. They show the exhaust manifold starting from the front to the back.
I've done the intake manifold twice on our engines. I start from center "B" bank then center "A" bank and then cross from "A" to "B" bank each time working from center out. I will go around in this sequence by first installing the bolts and tighten them to where they start to tighten. Then I will go around again and tighten them to 21Nm. I have had no issues with the intake manifold either time.
I pulled mine up a couple inches to replace the cooling hose, I was shocked at how much funk was in the intake ports, I cleaned them as much as I could and the car really ran 100% better at 1600-2k rpm, I’d been experiencing a slight preingnition in that range and it disappeared after cleaning the intake valve stems. The CRC intake cleaner with PEA worked great. I torqued mine old school center out across both banks in two stages as described earlier, no issues.
