Default 50% of a successful long trip.

Hey Guys and Gals,
My youngest son and I have just drove my 01 XK8 from Madison Wi to Montreal CA (about 1100 miles)for the F1 race without a issue.
Since purchasing this car I have done damn near every repair you guys have come up with including rebuilding the motor since it spun a rod bearing on my way home from purchasing it.
Everyone I know was questioning my sanity for doing this but I feel vindicated by making it here without issue ( was starting to panic about possible overheating in Montreal traffic, 1.5 hours for 12km's) so thanks for all your helpful posts and I'll post up again about the ride home.
Anyone else up here for race weekend?
Thanks, Terry

That's a real drive when it ends in another country.

Welcome to Canada, bienvenue au Canada. Montreal has the best Poutine, only made better with local beer. Enjoy the F1

You have punched two of my three favorite pastimes - Jaguars and F1 racing. Now, if you can hit an IndyCar race in your Jag this summer, you've hit my Tri-fecta ! Have a fantastic time !

What used to be called Paradise seafood restaurant at the harbor in Cap Pele used to do an amazing poutine! No need to drive to Montreal. It appears they changed their name: http://www.aboiteau.com/

Where in NB are you? We (wife and I) are looking to move to Moncton post-retirement. And bring the Jag, of course!

Yes, Montreal traffic can be a nightmare. I actually changed jobs (and careers) to avoid it. Ah, the good old days.

We are a bit North of Fredericton, a couple hours drive from Moncton. You might want to bring the F350 with you too, people will think you are a local. Even with the Florida plates.

Poutine is similar to Champagne in that it cannot rightfully be called that outside of a defined geographical area. You might have had fries with gravy and curd cheese that tasted OK, but it wasn't poutine. Even Montreal is barely inside the terroire of poutine, the dish having originated about 160KM southeast.

Wine may have it's snobs and beer might have it's geeks but they're nothing compared to poutineophiles. I've seen fights break out over the correct pronunciation of the word.

PS- it's not 'poo-teen' or 'pow-tyne' BTW. The closest most anglophones can manage is 'puh-TZIN'.

If we were keeping, or even replacing, the 5th wheel trailer we would surely keep the F350. But as we look forward to retirement we are thinking about the type of travel we intend to do and a motorhome (pulling the XKR on a trailer) would be a better fit for our plans.

So the current idea is to sell both the trailer and the truck, together or individually. And soon!

Although, I wonder how much I could get for the F350 up in NB?

I recommend Rubens on St. Catherines for the smoked meat sandwich, and the cheesecake. This will set off a controversy as everyone has their favorite smoked meat joint. I understand your intrepedation with the car, this forum turned me into a paranoid Jagophenic when I got it 3 years ago and headed off on a 3000 mile trip to the east coast of Canada. Since then 25000 miles later with 4 long trouble free trips and using it as a daily driver I am as confident in my XK8 as any other car. Enjoy Montreal, welcome to Canada and have a safe trip home.

Not really. If you drive 4 miles south (yes, south) of Detroit, Michigan you're in Canada. I have a pretty reliable '05. What bothers me is that, when I'm on the highway I feel the need to glance down at the dashboard every few moments to make sure a warning light isn't on.

Reuben's as well as Dunn's and Schwartz's all serve pretty good 'smoked' meat but ironically none of them are made in the traditional method which includes actually smoking the meat. The only place left that still does the 'right' way is Quebec Smoked Meat on Centre St. in Point St. Charles, a little out of the way for most tourists.

I gave up trying to find any place that serves or sells decent smoked meat in Ontario so now make my own, including the smoking part

So, who's up for bagel wars? St. Viateur vs. Fairmount.

Default Poutine

Well I think we got the Poutine covered.
Food truck off Peel St. offering supposedly the best BBQ in Montreal.
Poutine smothered in pulled pork.
Very good.
Have not seen another Jaguar of any kind yet so the XK8 is getting lonely.

Default Ruben's

daro31
Just got back from the track and the weather and racing has been fabulous.
We're going to clean up and go downtown and give Rubens a shot.
Been to Peel St. and Crescent St. the last couple of nights and wow, lots of beautiful women and cars. There was a Pagani Huayra with the Tempesta package, sticker on the window was $3,999,999.00!
The most common super car here is the Audi R8, probably seen 15 of them but only 1 XK8, mine.

Default Have a Smoked Meat for me.

Hope you enjoy supper. My wife has family in Montreal so I get their frequently. The car I see the most there thank I never sent in South Western Ontario are Bentley Continental GT convertibles. I could do a V12 one of those.

Poutine? I have not the faintest idea what you are talking about.

....so, did you drive back, or did you have to walk, in the end?

Default 100% successful trip!

Well, happy to say we had a great round trip. 2139 miles without one warning light going on! I have definitely built up confidence in the XK8 and would not hesitate to take it anywhere now but I know what you mean when you mentioned looking down at the gauges every few minutes.
