5HP24 Transmission Issues
After reading more than 70 pages in this tremendous forum, I have read of the issued incured of the A & B drums in the gear case. Can anybody tell me the symptoms of these drums failing? My trans failed the other day, suddenly, no warning. No forward torque, deep heavy clunking from inside box with "gearbox Fault" on dash. When I got the car towed home and reading this forum, I looked under the hood and the enclosure in the engine bay that contains/protects the TCM was half full of rainwater. Dried that out and noww I assume I need to clean the connectors. then HOPE! But I am currious of the A & B drums. Is there any sympton, noise associated with their failure. I have 120000 miles on my 97 convertible and hate to put it away this early in the year.
Thank you all for any help. Al

Heavy clunking and the sudden jerk you felt is classic symptom of the drum failure, most likely the A variety. The module with water, though curiously odd how that could have happened, and equally disturbing of the failures it will cause, is doubtful for that sound and feeling. But, until its opened up and the pieces are pulled, it isn't a certainty.
