70,000 Miles and All Is Well....
Given all the complaining and soul-searching we owners sometimes do regarding these XK8s and XKRs, I just wanted to say that my wife crossed the 70,000-mile mark on her odometer yesterday with no issues. She's taken her XK8 from 36,300 miles when we acquired it on February 3, 2012, to more than 70,000 miles today. As this level of mileage indicates, the car is her daily driver and she continues to love it as much today as she did when it was delivered to our driveway on that cold February night last year....
Thanks to this fantastic forum and those of you who contribute to it on a regular basis for helping me keep her XK8 up and running like it should. Without your guidance and assistance, I simply would not be able to maintain this car and keep it in our stable....
My next planned task on this car will be new front brake pads. I expect to do that as part of the next oil & filter change / tire rotation coming up at 72,000 miles. I've had my new Wagner ThermoQuiet brake pads since late March, so I should be good to go when the time comes....
Thanks again to all the knowledgeable and helpful folks here on the best forum I've ever utilized....

And it is good to hear about cars that are trouble free for extended periods. The XK8/R cars are indeed very reliable once sorted out. The common thread on most of the cars above are that they are driven. Jags do not like inactivity.

Congratulations!
Apparently I have to get out more often! I am one year into my 2nd XK8 and accomplished roughly 6000 miles including a couple of 6 hour trips...but hey, that's against an average of 3K for the car's first 12 years. My only problem was having to replace the fuel pump. $150 (aftermarket) and a few hours of time and the rest has been all the joy I remembered from my '97 and then some.
I just did those front brakes too. I found one easy bolt per side and one that's a bit tough to get a regular socket on with a brake line in the way. I sprayed the calipers red with some caliper spray from Autozone for $7 while I was in there and got some high-temp Jaguar stickers from Ebay...lots of fun for a father/son project, its all weathering the environment quite well, and they look "sick" which is a good thing if you are in High School! ; )
Good luck heading to 100K!

Jim,
My wife's XK8 has been far from trouble-free. I've had to deal with the usual speed sensors / air intake duct / brake pedal switch / headrest cable / battery / ZF rough shift issues that get reported here so frequently. Her car has required more attention than my S-Type and Ram pickup combined during our 19+ months of ownership and I expect it always will. I was just happy (and relieved) that it crossed 70,000 miles earlier this month with no known issues....
Hope I didn't jinx anyone else. I'll shut up now....

Whistling past the graveyard...
My 2000 xk8 turned 90,000 yesterday, after doing a 3000mile trip down south and back. No issues on the trip, but this is truly a vehicle that is beautiful and untrustworthy at the same time. It just seems that it's always some stupid thing followed by the next.

Repeat after me: "I must not tempt fate by boasting of how many trouble-free miles she's covered".
Best wishes, Colin
