97 XK8 door lock problem
XK8 Gurus,
I need help with the driver door lock on my 1997 XK8 project car.
I fixed the problem with the driver door window described in previous posts.
Now my problem is that the driver door lock will not unlock with the key. It will lock with the key but not unlock with the key. If I lock the driver door with the key, the only way to unlock the driver door is by pulling the interior door handle, which requires that I enter the car through the passenger door. Fortunately, the passenger door does not lock when I lock the driver door with the key.
My key fob does not work but that is a problem for another day.
This behavior Is the same whether the battery is connected or not.
Questions:
1. Must the battery be connected to unlock driver door with the key?
2. If the driver door locks with key and unlocks by pulling the inside door handle but does not unlock with key, does that mean there is a mechanical problem in the door latch or door handle or cylinder lock?
3. With battery disconnected, should I be able to push the lock rod down from inside the door and unlock the door?
Any advice will be appreciated.Thanks,
