I've had OEM windshields replaced on American cars and the replacement glass was not as thick as the OEM glass. The cars were a 1975 Olds and a 1990 Ford.
Jags are pretty quiet inside and part of that is due to the thickness of the glass.

Are the warranties the same on both pieces of glass from the aftermarket glass man?
What will your insurance pay for? They may have a say in it if you are going to make a claim.
What ever you do make sure you get the right color of glass. My brother has a Mercedes wagon van suv thing and had to get a new windshield, and they kept ordering in the green tint and he has the bronze tint. Not sure if there were options on glass with the jag's.

my XK8 winshield has heated wires in it, do the generics have the same? Out of interest, when I had my XK150, a rock hit the windshield. Insurance had to pay for a glass guy to drive down to Stubenville Ohio, pick a new windshield ($ 800 back then) and bring it back here in Ontario. The total cost was $2,000 and I paid $25. ![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'm sure the insurance companies have added exclusions for such things these days.

I feel like I am digging a hole in trying to help. What are the markings on the window or the information we want to get? PPG stands for Pittsburg Plate Glass and they have a Europe division. Triplex is another glass co. However, I can find a lot of info applying to MG’s but little on Jag applications related to newer cars. http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache...&ct=clnk&gl=us I may be looking in all the wrong places. Pilkington is a glass co. but the MB c320 comes up to a Mercedes Benz C320

Well by my nature I continued to keep looking. I found Pilkington Glass and the only thing I could is a phone number 1.866.377.3647 For the help desk.
http://www.pilkington.com/the+americ...r/default1.htm
As for the glass for jaguar I was unable to get that information.

Same here Gus, I remembered Pilkington from somewhere...found it on my windshield.
"XXX Triplex 43R-001585 Pilkington"
Searched on the number.. got hits that showed M-Benz C320, Ford Van (UK), and a Crossfire, whatever that is. Hard to believe that the same windshield is used on these vehicles. It may be a Standard instead eg: SAE, DIN . Don't know.
Searched on "float glass". Process was invented by Sir Alastair Pinkington
