98MY XK8 - Radio turns itself off
Dear all,
I am a lucky owner of a 98my XK8 coupe, where the radio (stereo) system turns off by itself. This is intermittent, and happens aprox. every 2-3 minutes of use.
When this occurs, all sounds turns off and the display get blank. However, it can be "restarted" by pushing the on/off button. After pushing button the "code" has to be entered, and it works file for a minute or two. Please notice that there is one "click" from a relay or similar after it turns off. The "click" sound seems to be located somewhere around the radio area.
The preset radio stations is not erased during this phenomenon, only the "code" that needs to be re-entered.
This is the premium system with external amp. and subwoofer.
Anyone with experience in similar matter, that maybe have a tips on this behavior?
Best regards

As the radio requires the 'Security Code', this indicates total power loss to the head unit.
The harness connector plug (arrowed in red) has a black 'lock lever' to ensure positive contact with the socket (arrowed in blue) on the back of the head unit:
The plug can become detached if the 'lock lever' is not positively engaged or is broken.
You are going to have to remove the head unit to troubleshoot this issue and should check for continuous power supply at the same time as there could be a break / short elsewhere in that section of the harness.
