99 XK8 Tensioners
Hi gang,
I just bought a 99 XK8 vert and have no record of the tensioners being replaced. When getting these done what else should be completed while they are in there? I will be looking to buy the parts thru SNG and have the labor done at an indy shop.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

It would be a good idea to replace the plastic thermostat housing with a metal one. Welsh Ent. has a good deal including thermostat, but don't let your indy tell you they have to remove the intake manifold. A new metal vane water pump. I visited Coventry West yesterday and saw the assembly area for the pump business they recently bought. Very nice pumps. A new serpentine belt if needed and the idler pulley and tensioner should be checked.

Overheating these engines is a disaster. My old water pump was fine when I replaced it; I think '99's have a better one than the earlier cars. But it is a wear item, so if you have the money go for it. There is some debate about metal vs. plastic vanes.....mine are white nylon-type material. Haven't read about any engine failure with either type. About all I can add is to replace the spark plugs if they're not new already, since the coils have to come off anyway.

Hello Mike,
If you're ordering the timing chain kit, thermo housing etc please drop me an email with your VIN and I'll work out some extra discount for you. We keep all of the above mentioned on the shelf and all are the later/uprated type.
Kind Regards
