I would prefer british racing green to Sherwood green pearl but on my door sill I have:
MFD DATE: 03/97
BODY: HFR (sherwood green)
TRIM: SDC (coffee)
VIN (last digits): 011097 (early model)
Here's an interesting article:
Central Valley Classic Cars :: The XK8 Color Mystery
I had a Series III E-Type V12 in BRG which is very different from HFR. BRG is not metallic while Sherwood green is pearl. HGG ('98 color) was apparently available at the end of '97 and Jaguar racing green HGZ not until 2002 (according to the article).
cheers Francois

Well, always thought mine was BRG. after reading your post and attached article went to check my door sill and and found is HFR, Sherwood Green Pearl (like yours), also Coffee Trim. Something learned today thanks to you. As mentioned in the article, it depends on the light, or the angle you are seeing it, can be a metallic green, a blue/green or a dark blue. I like it very much.

Felipe

And me2 . Tell me Felipe, do you have the tonneau cover? I don't and it appears that the early cars are different but I dont know how. The lining is a bit dirty now and I want to clean it (what is recommended btw) and protect it in the future.
cheers

Try this http://vi.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI....caz.html#thumb for $239.00. At least looks the same as the original. Perhaps if you contact them they will be able to add the back retainers for the 97.
I clean the liner with TUFF STUFF multi-purpose foam cleaner. I first apply a coat of the foam cleaner to an area of approx. one square foot at a time and scrub with a damp cloth or even a brush if there are heavy stains. Keep rinsing the cloth in clean water every time you clean an area. Works wonderful. It can also be used on carpet. You can find it in WalMart, Advance Auto, Pep Boys or many home and auto stores, is a very common product.
Regards,
Felipe
