Default ABS Diagnostic

Hi all,
I have had the bloody ABS light and the flashing Traction Control failure messages duo for the last 2months and with the MOT due soon I have finally set about finding the problem but could do with some help diagnosing the cause. here is what I have checked;
Fuses are all OK.
From the ABS module plug I have tested the resistance of all 4 wheel sensor circuits, and all four give a comparable resistance.
The previous owner said he had the ABS module repaired, but there was no receipt for this, so removed the ABS module found what looks to be a very tidy repair.

So does anyone else have any ideas what to do next?

These errors come up on startup every time the battery is weak, so there is that.

You can try and clean the sensors to see if it helps, and double check the reluctor rings and wiring to the sensors, especially in the front.

As you seem to have eliminated the low hanging fruits, you might have to use a proper Jaguar code reader to get the actual diagnostic from the ABS module itself.

The battery is quite new, after I experienced the multiple errors when starting up with a weak battery, and I use a battery charger/maintainer if car has not moved for week.

I forgot to mention there are no codes using an OBD reader. How does one find a Jaguar code reader? is that something dealers still have or is a case of find someone who salvaged one??

If you intend to keep the car for awhile I can recommend an iCarSoft 930 code reader which will read the proprietary codes on both Jaguar and Land Rover cars. Helped me solve a similar ABS problem.

First try to re-solder it. Sometimes, solders are not good even if recently done
Then, send it to a professional for diag or switch with another module

What are the codes from your reader, and was it ever not throwing errors in the past?

The icarsoft and Foxwell NT630 are both fairly inexpensive, probably less than a visit to the dealer for analysis. You may even find used ones on ebay. Until you get the codes you're just guessing and may be wasting time and money.

An ordinary OBD tool just reports the PCM i.e. 1 module out of (say) 10.

I already have these readers
Very basic - Autel MaxiScan MS309 OBD2 & EOBD
More comprehensive - OBD Link LX used via Torque pro app
So would the The icarsoft and Foxwell be able to do anything different??

Great. So, I assume it has only recently shown ABS/TRAC errors, and before that it was fine while you've owned it?

Edit: I have the Foxwell, and it's a bit limited compared with IDS, but should show the Jag P codes with the JLR module installed.

Any generic scanner shows P codes. I was under the impression it also showed U and C codes.

I have used Autoengenuity for years and the only thing I can't do with it is reset SRS codes, something I need to do.

Yes, generally U and C too. Quirks include if you’re not doing an overall scan, for example you want abs only, it might find nothing when the overall scan is reported properly.

I believe the Foxwell device support for X100 starts with MY2001...

Any generic scanner will show P codes. I was under the impression it would also display and erase C and U codes. I use Autoengeniuity which does that, but will not reset SRS module functions, which I need.

Yes, U and C too, and can reset them. It can infrequently tattle on the SRS modules, but nothing like IDS.

And yes, fmertz, specifically for 2001 and beyond. I suspect much commonality before this based on the structure of the CAN and SCP messages before 2001 compared with 2001, but don't particularly recommend the Foxwell anyway. I just happened to have it and bought the JLR module.

If I didn't have it, I'd stick with some form of IDS, which is a bit more cumbersome because of the need to relentlessly keep the computer from updating itself and killing functionality. For example, IDS doesn't work for me right now because I didn't previously have a dedicated computer for it, and the computer updated itself against my attempts to permanently stop it.

I am just curious as to if you have driven your car to clear the ABS light. Under some documented circumstances on this forum, (and from my on experience) the ABS light will clear after exceeding 12.5 mph (20.2 km/h). It is worth a try if you have not moved it.

No, the only other time it came up (along with lots of other errors) was when the old battery was getting weak, which I then replaced. It was a few weeks before xmas when the ABS light and traction control failure warning came on and it is has been every time I drive the car.
