Adamesh exhaust

Adamesh exhaust
I have a NZ new 2003 XKR and have recently been going through abit of a saga to fit a freer flowing exhaust. Started with an exhaust from Moss Motors in the US but they managed to stuff the order up 100% (every part wrong). Have now received a stage 1 and 2 exhaust from adamesh. Very well made, far higher quality than the bits from Moss Motors. Problem is I can't get it to fit. There's all sorts of weird stuff going on. I can get it all lined up but then the over axle section is hitting the back frame and the front "A" cross member. If I try and wriggle it into place better it falls out of the top rubber mount. It's almost as if the NZ spec cars have a slightly different exhaust system but that can't be. Anyway, seriously considering having the car towed to an exhaust specialist and letting them hack around with the pipes to make it all fit. Up on a hoist there will be alot more room than grovelling around under the car on axle stands.
Couple of questions
1. The centre (front) muffler - which way up does it go? Lettering side up or down? I've had to pull this out as I'm also getting an error code on one of the bottom O2 sensors so will need to remove and check them.
2. The two short sections of pipe that go between the centre muffler and the over axle pipes. These are not labelled L or R. Which one is which as they are different? When fitted one way the centre muffler hangs really low and the other way the pipe is pressed up against the underside of the car.
3. Anyone else fitted the adamesh stage 1 and 2 pipes? Any problems? Any hints on how to make it fit?
Thanks
Mike

Tifoso,
I have the same model year XKR as yourself and have also successfully fitted the stage #1 & 2# Adamesh system.
1. The large Central Muffler can be fitted either way up because the entry exit pipes are on the center-line and do not have an incline/decline on exit. You should be able to check this on yours whilst it's off the car.
2. See attached image showing the correct short mid-section alignment. From the angle of shot, it appears the pipe bends upwards a little – very subtle though. It's a case of sliding together the joints and rotating it to the best fit.
3. Yes, there is difficulty fitting!! When finished, I found it a slightly different fit on each side and this is evident at the top of the pic which shows the different over-axle exit positions. The right side was about 20mm lower. Although this is absorbed when fitting the sleeve joint of the tailpipe section. There was also difficulty applying exhaust sealant because there isn’t much play in the joints when fully assembled.

One cautionary note about the rear silencer delete (I believe that's what Adamesh calls their stage 1 exhaust) is that it leaves a nasty droning resonance when cruising between about 1500 and 2500 RPM. I've been mixing and matching exhaust pieces and have found that the rear silencers, which are straight-through resonators, do the vast majority of the work when it comes to dampening that drone. You can get around it by avoiding that RPM range via the J-gate or otherwise via careful driving, but it's annoyed me enough that I've ended up reinstalling those rear boxes while deleting the three silencers ahead of it.

My 2001 XKR was (I thought) way too quiet and I hated the way the exhaust pipes flattened out over the axle. So a a friend of mine put it up on his hoist and we started removing mufflers. First the very rears. Hardly any change. Then off came the over axle pipes and the next pair of mufflers. Fired her up and wow! That’s perfect. We then rebuilt the exhaust from the central muffler back under the axles and I am so pleased with the results. It sounds great and there’s hardly any droning at cruising RPM’s. It was a bit tricky fitting the new pipe hangers but well worth the effort.
