Hi guys I need some advice. I took my Xkr in
For an oil change last week to the garage I use
That specializes in European cars. He told me
That it would need a brake job in about
Two to three months. Quoted me around 1000
For front and rear . I didn't ask what parts that would
Cover but am assuming pads, rotors and calipers?
Anyway I have another mechanic who does side jobs
On my other car being the winter beater . So my question is
How different is a brake job for a jag than a domestic make and should I get him to do it or leave it for the other guy
To do. Any comments would be great thanks

From what I've seen on my 2 jags the front rotors generally need replacing not the rear. Unless the calipers are leaking or the rubber dust cover is torn. I don;t think anything will be done to them other than to clean up the pins the caliper floats on. I spent about $300 to buy rotors and pads to do my XKR (non Brembo) front and did the work in about 4-5 hrs the XK8 came next and it took about 2 hours to do the same work. lol learning curve. So to make a long story short yes the domestic guy can do it but you may have to source parts for him. Or you can do it on a weekend and save even more.

The cost estimate suggests pads, discs (rotors) but not calipers. Your XKR will be fitted with R Performance or Brembo fixed caliper brakes and parts for these cost significantly more than those for the standard sliding caliper brakes.
There's still nothing out of the ordinary about the design and any competent shop should be able to service them. The work a regular for DIY and the majority of members here change their own pads and discs. Most also choose to use aftermarket parts at much lower cost than OE from Jaguar.

As already stated earlier in the thread, fronts wear out considerably more quickly than rears.

There's a thread in the FAQ's on fitting standard pads and discs:
Step-by-step guide to rotor/brake pad replacement(with pics) FAQ - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
This will give you a good idea of what is involved. The Brembo setup is slightly different because the caliper is fixed and not sliding but is no more difficult
