Default Advice of valuing my car

Chatting with my insurance broker whom I have know for years. She suggested that I have an endorsement called SeF 19A - Valued Automobile put on my auto insurance policy for the Jag. It essentially sets an agreed value for the car. She said that ,in case of accident or damage, the Jag would be treated in the same way as a Ford or Chev and I would not get much for a 2004 model.

My problem is that there is no one in the province who can effectively value the car. If it was a Mustang or 57 Chevy the local appraiser of "muscle cars" will do it but he says that he has no experience with "foreign sports cars" ( his words )

My broker says that she will accept whatever value I tell her. I want to be honest and I know that an inflated value will also mean higher premiums. Can any of you folks offer any advice on either A/ what is a reasonable;e value or B/ a way to get the car valued remotely.

I will emphasize that I am on an island in the north Atlantic and there is no one for 800 mile and a 1/2day ferry trip that can value the car.

All help is appreciated

Hi Barry, The best thing to do is check out various websites that sell vehicles and see what your model year and mileage is attracting. Allow about 10% - 20% off if being sold by dealers. Also, e-bay is another source of valuing it. Take at least a dozen valuations and average it out, which should give a basis. Personally in UK I would suggest you are looking at around £10,000 with that mileage.

Barry, you are in a remote place and replacement valve would have to include getting another one to you.
So figure that in and glad yours is still running along just fine. You are a brave man, it's hard enough to get a part here.
You didn't say what kind of work has been done, so a car with that many miles would be in the $10 to $12 thousand if the paint and interior are really nice along with the top. If the top needs attention and shocks are crumbling, then $7 to $8 would be a good price for you, not so much for the buyer. We haven't talked about the front chain guides, hoses or tires.
So you see, very difficult to give you a pin point on the information you gave. As it stands to me, the car looks nice and would require a special buyer in your area with knowledge of the ins and outs of these cars.
Good luck.

Barry I have the same car with similar mileage. If I were to set an agreed upon value for my car the least I would consider is $15K US. I bet that there is a scale that you could use to determine how much to insure based on payment. There is likely a sweet spot somewhere that would seem worth it to you.
