Advise required for replacing Pads & Discs on XK8 /XKR
Hi
The pads on my 2000 XKR are due for replacement. The car has done 95000 miles and I'm thinking of replacing the discs at the same time.
I'd like to know if anyone's used aftermarket discs and pads as this is what I'm thinking of using to keep the cost down. Or I might just use Jag pads.
As it happens the discs are in good condition but there is a rust lip around the edges, so not sure whether I should replace or not.
Any comments will be gratefully appreciated.

The brake disk (rotor) has a minimum thickness specification. It may be shown on the disk, otherwise check the manual.
You should measure the disks to see if they meet that minimum specification.
Also, check for run-out (warped) disks that is usually diagnosed first by a pulsating pedal when applying the brake, but should be measured to be sure. If run-out exceeds specifications, replace the disk (rotor.)
Aftermarket pads and disks range from good to poor quality. I'm not sure about UK products, but here in the US disks and pads from Wagner, for example are usually good quality.

As far as I know, the only places casting new brake discs are Mexico, and China. I have had no problems with either.
I just put a complete set on an 07 X Type for $237, for all 4 wheels. The rotors were zinc coated in gold, and were drilled, slotted, and using ceramic pads. You paid twice as much for this stuff just a few years ago. Thank God for the Chinese taking over the world economy. I figure I may as well use the situation to my advantage, until I become a slave to my Chinese masters......Be cool.......Mike
