Default Speed?

The first thing I tell people when they admire the XKR and ask "How fast is it?"...is "Not very" They carry a lot of weight with the various gizmos, motors, relays and God knows what else that I never expect to be the fastest car on the road, I'm quite happy to let the quicker cars outpace me. They and I know that mine is an XKR and theirs 'aint!

How many people turn their heads to watch a Camry or Accord go by (they may check out the WRX because it's so noisy)? Not any, I'll bet. But park an XK8 in a parking lot and watch how many people slow down to take a look at it. "0 to 60" time be damned!

Parking an XK8 in a parking lot or car show, and you are busy shaking hands, and showing off the car to people who have never seen, but read about them, when they first came out. Everyone knows it's not the fastest, just the most beautiful. Rolls Royces aren't fast, but people don't get to see them, except in magazines, or movies. I bet Rolls drivers don't get as many requests by women for rides though......be cool.....Mike

I presumed, without having to say so, that the people here who own XK8/R's would prefer to own them than a slightly quicker to 60 Camry. I was fairly certain that we all understood that, going in, though, I certainly appreciate that so many of you verified that point for me. Thanks, I feel the very same way.

Whenever wife & I are driving Hwy 101 on the Oregon coast, which is every time we go out, as it is where we live & the only way to get between cities, & I start to drive the XK8 faster than she is comfortable with (there are some great twisty sections), she says a phrase that brings me back to reality, & makes my mouth water. That phrase is "When we get home, take the bike out for some exercise." We own a 2013 BMW K1600 GTL. It weighs 780 lbs. 120 ft/lbs. of torque, 165 BHP. Oh yeah, 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. It allows me to get the crazies out of my system, & show the local teens what real acceleration is all about. It is a touring bike, detachable luggage, a detachable trunk... as one scribe put it, this is a superbike in a fat man's suit.

Those test are ridiculous, once the car has gas and a trunk load of junk, its another camry lol. And those test are on flat grounds, this car don't have torque for hills.
