Default Air Con.

Very hot yesterday here in the UK 28c. Switched on the AC & Auto, blasted with cold air. Fiddled with controls, can't remember exactly what I did. Next minute only blowing cool air. More fiddling but she wouldn't blow cold even on min. setting.
Went out to the cat this morning with a print out of the diagnostic for the AC but came up with ' 0 no error codes '. Don't think it's low on gas as the problem occurred too suddenly.
Anyone have any idea what the course might be.
With thanks,
George. XK8 4.2 2003

Check to see if the A/C compressor clutch is engaged. If not the system may have fallen below the minimum static pressure required to operate the pressure switch. A look with a set of A/C gauges is in order.

There is an electrically operated water valve that controls the amount of engine coolant passing through the heater core. It can easily overcome the capabilities of the A/C system.

Couple places to start. The compressor clutch will tell you what to do next.

It was about 32C here yesterday.

Thanks for the advice test point but how do I check the A/C compressor clutch.
There ought to be a master switch on these modern cars that cuts out all this computer stuff. Bring back the coil and the distributor !!

Observe the A/C compressor pulley with the engine running and the Climate Control System off and you will see that the front center part is not rotating. Turn the system on and the center part should be rotating with the pulley. That is the compressor clutch.

If it is not, and after you have verified that all fuses are good, the first guess is that you are low on freon charge, second guess is that the pressure switch is not functioning correctly. Based on your question it would appear that professional assistance is going to be required at this point.

Thanks once again test point.
Off to SW Europe tomorrow with 4 OAP mates on motorcycles mines a 1250 Suzuki Bandit. Will follow your advice upon return. Still looking for the fuse identification charts on my JTIS. I know the buggers are there somewhere !

Just got back from a 700 mile trip on the Gold Wing with 12 of my closest friends. Great 3 day weekend!

You can find the fuse charts in the FAQ sticky on the XK8/R forum. Same as the XJ8/R.

And if you did fit twelve on a goldwing, good thing they were friends...and not enemies!

Just funnin' with ya'. I know bikes can be a blast. I rode for most of my life...hung around with a bunch of degenerates, when I lived in Chicago, and we all only knew on or off. All drove very fast Cafe bikes, but I was the chump on a modified 900 Kawasaki.

It was a time when I made my fastest run on any machine - 160 mph on a Ducati Desmo....for about 5 minutes, that is. Two of my old crowd are no longer around, both taken out on bikes in high speed accidents. Then, about ten years ago, I completely lost interest in bikes. Haven't been on one since then.

There's time yet. I came back to bikes at the age of 63, that was after a 43 year gap. 11 years later and I'm still enjoying it.
