Default Airbag warning light now flashing then steady on

While driving the other night, I kept hearing a rattling sound coming from the front of the dash near the windshield. I figured it was that darn defroster vent that is popped up a bit. I reached forward to try to push it down and when i leaned back, my airbag warning light on instrument gauge was flashing then went to a steady light.
It was gone the next morning but later that day, when I reached around to the back seat, it came on again. I have disconnected the battery, touched the terminals together and replaced, but nothing.
I'm assuming when I quickly reached forward while driving the first night, I must have set a seat belt sensor off. If my memory is correct, only a dealer can reset?? My indy mechanic that specializes in Jaguar said he can't reset it but possibly his friend that works on Range Rover's has a system but not sure if it will reset my 2002 XK8.
Any ideas/suggestions? This car is literally starting to wear out it's welcome!!

Phil,
About once a year for the past 4 years, my air bag warning light will do exactly as you described. I simply ignore it and within 2-3 days it resets itself, warning light disappears, and everything is back to normal for a year or so. I have to believe it is related to the sensor in the seat bottom. It happened to me again about 3-4 weeks ago and was gone 3 days later. Just be patient, it will go away.

If by the code you mean the flashing sequence, I'm getting 2flash then two more flash, then nothing, it repeats several times then stays on.

Hi Phil,
The code you have is 2-2. Drivers seat side air bag. Most of us have had it.

The problem will most likely be the connection in the back of the seat. See Rev Sam's how to, to remove the seat cover and the exercise the connection.

I would start with the small yellow connector under the drivers seat first.

Hope this helps,

Good advice from jimbov8. First things first. And when you separate those yellow connectors under the seat, spray them down with a couple of shots of electrical connector cleaner spray, let them dry, and reconnect them snugly. This did the trick for my wife's XK8 more than a year ago. She hasn't seen any flashing airbag codes since....

Just a precaution here....don't forget to drop the negative pole off the battery and wait at least 5mins before you start messing with the air bag connections. This precaution is written all over the TSB for air bag issues. Is it worth a whole new interior and 2 SRS modules if you don't.

didn't drive it for a few days due to weather and when I got in, it was off! No airbag light.
Then, at the end of the day when I got in to drive home. ARGH, back on. WTF! does the heated seat wiring have anything to do with the seat sensor wiring? I don't think I had the seat heater on in the morning but I did turn it on at night.

As previously advised, clean the connectors. That solves the majority of these issues....

Phil,
This particular problem does seem to be temperature related. Your fix is to peel off the seat cover and make sure that airbag connector is exercised, cleaned and reconnected.

Heed the warning by Trevor about the negative terminal for your own safety.

Well, two days driving and no light. And used heaters. I'll check connectors if it comes on again. Or I may wait till I get my new leather seat skins this spring.

2003 xk8 The dash air bag warning light comes on about 1 min. after starting, flashes 2 times, repeats this pattern 5 times, pauses, then stays on.
is this a 2-5 pattern?
I don't see this pattern at https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...g-codes-39056/

Looks to be the same as the thread above (22), unless I'm mistaken.

Not to pile on to this thread, but my 2005 XK8 just had the air bag light come on the other day at the grocery of all places. It does not seem to flash at all, just glows solid when I turn the key on and stays solidly lit after all the other lamps go out. Any ideas of where to even start on this one?

2003 XK6 63k miles
air bag warning 22 flash code-
update: dealer first said air bag needs to be replaced $2,100. I asked for fault code and if there is physical damage to harness, connection or pins. Told they did not look at it code is B2295 - 29
To replace harness $395 (4 hours labor to remove seat and wiring) So this forum and asking questions brought $ down. I wonder if the air bag SRS is covered by warranty? (63K miles 2003)

In between the front grill and the radiator, on both the drivers side and the passengers side, there will be the airbag deploy sensors. They are small black 'boxes' bolted to a cross-frame.

Make sure that neither one has come loose and may have tilted (happened to mine). Also disconnect the battery and remove each sensor connector and spray with contact cleaner...allow to dry and put them back on.

That's where I would start if the airbag light is solid.
