Default Aluminium Cupholder Mod

I upgraded my cupholder by adding sprung-loaded arms. It opens normally and the arms have a limited swing which stops cups from falling on your lap! Made of 6000 series Aluminium, it polished to the same sheen as the cast J-Gate surround. I tried to be sympathetic to Jaguar’s design and hopefully members agree that it looks almost original.

Talking Cup Holder

I think it looks great. It will probably hold a small Coke cup from McDonald's now too !

Beautiful, PK!

If you listed them on eBay or in the Marketplace here, you could probably find many other owners interested in your upgrade!

Cheers,

Don

'A thing of beauty is a joy forever'

Great. A really well-executed piece of workmanship.

I appreciate that others might want this same upgrade, but unfortunately, I don’t have time or facility to produce more. This was a slow project to create a working prototype. It was relatively expensive, difficult to make and fiddly to assemble.

That said, for the persistent nutcases like me, I’m sharing my drawings here plus further details and images uploaded to a photo album within my profile.
Who knows, if the demand does grow, then this could be a business opportunity for a member with a CAD workshop....

Fine piece of workmanship there.

Might you have an STL, Step or other 3D solid model?

I would be interested to try 3D printing one to see what it comes out like. Certainly wouldn’t be as good looking as 6061 but might still be serviceable.

That is amazing! Excellent job. Really wish you or someone else could sell them.

Hi Charlie,
3D Printing is a great idea. Both STEP and STL formats attached.

Wow, you must really like driving with coffee. Those are some professional drawings.

Saying it again, this is an impressive project.
