Motor out... took pics.
With the engine out, we can see that several rubber parts degraded from oil exposure. Aside from the blow-by the engine also leaked oil from one of the heads. Oil cooling hoses, an intercooler hose, and a sway bar mount will need to be replaced. We already have the sway bar mounts since we knew about that one. Oil has gotten onto the power steering unit as well, but it performs well and will be cleaned up with the rest of the engine bay.
When you buy an XKR off of eBay for only $8600 like I did, you know that you're going to be in for some repairs!
As you can see, it is time for this engine swap to be done! Bring on the 42,000 mile 4.2 liter... AW, YEAH!

Jeff, that pic of the shot sway bar bushing. Looks like the very common leak from that slip on fitting above it thats the power steering cooler line where it connects to the metal pipe. You cannot replace that without replacing the entire cooler. Theyre not fun nor cheap. But, you can cut that fitting off the hose and slip it back over the metal pipe with 2 hose clamps and will work great for yrs without issue. The choice is yours. I know you have issues with oil in the intake box, but you can also see that its very clean around and under that fitting. Oil gets dirtier and attracts dirt and power steering fluid(atf) is highly detergent and a cleaner which is why its cleaner

Mina intake= power and whine
Jeff, my 03 STR (4.2 s/c) has both the Mina intake and modded air intake tube. As you're already aware, these will allow the motor and blower to both breath and whine. It's intoxicating and approx. 24 rwhp. Not that you'll need anymore hp with the 600+ chp you'll soon recieve, it will enhance and/or compliment your new 4.2 twin screw.
Oh, by the way, though the 4.0 s/c was no slouch, you'll love the 4.2 s/c's superior powerband. Mine has 140k miles and still going strong, no oil leaks, burns only a little oil. Friggin excited for your results. Avos is a hair away for an STR twin screw.

I had forgotten something in the Jag's glove-box, so I stopped by Falconworks to get it. They are almost ready to lift the old, tired 4.0 out of its home.
Oil leakage and blow-by oils had softened up a few rubber hoses, some of which were fairly new, so those will be replaced.
The catalytic converters are out and on a table. They are in great shape. I'll re-use them. At this point, with so much power that is going to be available, I'll wait to consider adding a set of Nameless cats. I think that the car is already slightly loud with the removal of the rear mufflers and I don't want it to become obnoxiously loud. I would like for the supercharger whine to be louder, though! I love that sound.

Intake
I've got an AVos-designed full-custom 3.5" intake that will mate up to AVos' custom made 90 mm throttle body. The intake is massive and has a custom AVos programmed 3.5" MAF which is fed by a massive K&N cone filter that fits behind the front bumper. Thank God for AVos and his insane quest for powah!

You can just use the 4.0 pulleys even though they have 1 extra groove (for the 7 rib belt on the4.0), the new 6 groove belt you need to use with the lower 4.2 pulley aligns perfect with the others. I have been running like this for many miles now,and have not experienced a belt jump.
You must also re-use the 4.0 aicro & steering pump and fead belt tensioner. Just reuse the brackets from the 4.0, and cut off excess material from the front cover (where the bracket of the 4.2 belt tensioner resides to), so it looks the same as the 4.0 cover.
Last but not least, you need to use the K060935 fead belt.

Oil leaks
The old engine's oil leaking and piston blow-by oils sure did a number on the rubber hoses under the hood! If you guys have any kind of oil leaking, it would be smart to deal with it NOW. The delay in completing the engine swap and twin screw install is due to finding that we need to replace oil cooler lines and other hoses that were degraded from oil exposure. Ugh. We'll get there!

The 4.2 is in!
The 4.2 liter engine is now in place, ready to accept the peripheral goodies. You can see the new motor mounts in one photo. 2 other photos show how oily the old 4.0 is as it sits nearby. The preliminary estimate is that it will be ready to drive on Friday, if no glitches show up. Of course, that means that it will probably be ready to drive next week around Wednesday or so. Hah! Tomorrow's work will have the fuel pressure regulator tapped into the fuel rail with a custom machined gizmo. These techs have a machine shop and quite a set of skills!
One of the original motor mounts had leaked out its oil and the other was a bit degraded as well, allowing the engine to sit 3/8" lower than normal. We'll now see how tight of a squeeze it is with the new motor mounts putting the engine back at factory height. =)
Most of the pulleys are from the 4.2, put onto my 4.0 accessories, since they are mostly new. I had contacted the seller of the 4.2 and they found some of the original accessories with their pulleys intact. Even though the accessories did not match the motor as they had said they did, they worked for our purpose. Pulleys removed, pulleys used!

My techs are *almost* done with the supercharger install & engine swap. They ask this question:
"Are we supposed to use the 4.0 cam position sensors in the 4.2 engine? The
4.2 sensors do not plug in to the harness. The reluctance is the same."
I have not been able to speak with them yet this morning. They are nearing completion of the 4.2 engine swap, replacing the 4.0.
Does anyone know the answer?
Update: It appears that the 4.0 units will work just fine in the 4.2, so they are moving ahead with that plan.
Thanks!

Almost done...
The 3 pics were taken about an hour ago. The techs are doing electrical work wherein they are making sure that wires and pins are in perfect condition. They're using the 4.2 ignition coils and the 4.0 cam sensors. Everything seems to be checking out. The supercharger final install should be on Monday, shooting for a start-up on Tuesday. We had to go with a longer belt due to using my 4.0's brand new air conditioning compressor. No problem. Aside from new engine mounts, they also used new transmission mounts since the original had torn.
