I'm really liking the hammered paint look, so good job to both Jeff and Maxwdg. Keep the pictures coming.

Maxwdg, the pottery part bins on your engine table must be hard to keep from breaking when the wrenches start flying.

Default Intake

We may use the factory air box that I had modified. It seems to already flow equal to or more air than the 3.5" intake piping, plus it would negate the need to cut a hole in the fenderwell to install the huge cone intake. It will also allow the air cleaner to be more easily accessed and cleaned. We'll see. Measurements are being taken to verify the factory snorkel plus the enlarged extra one that I had created. They both access cool air vs. hot engine air.

Even if I start out with that, I can install the cone filter if I need to a little bit later.

Pics show the throttle body and intake piping mostly in. Throttle body electronics will be installed tonight, located in the passenger side engine box at the base of the windshield.

In this photo, you can see the methanol injection installed after the throttle body:

I have a couple of questions, first is where is your engine breather going to go? The other is that to me the throttle body does not look right.

Default TB

The throttle body is a custom 90 mm unit supplied by AVos (sits sideways). It is not 100% installed yet, just place-holding. This is his Stage II kit. The breather will route back to an area behind the throttle body and vent into the huge port that feeds the supercharger. We're thinking about installing an aftermarket oil separator inline with the breather tubing. Your photo is awesome!

I think the throttle should look like this.

The picture in the instruction manual is a 3rd orientation from either of yours. Pretty sure it doesn't care which way it is rotated so long as there is not interference with other parts.

The TB can be mounted like that like. I can’t tell for sure with regards to airflow what would be the optimal setting, but I prefer the position like in the picture of jgaxkr's amazing engine bay.

Please don't shorten/modify the MAF tube, this will affect the airflow measurements. Although the 3 holes in the air box you have made earlier will all allow for air to come in, I would suggest to also adding a bell mouth to the 2nd pipe. The larger cone filters I suggest also has a bell mouth on the inside to aid more flow. But the original air box just isn’t big enough to house a suitable large air filter imho, so that will increase the vacuum in the intake, which means slight loss in performance.

Default Advice

Thanks, all, I will ask the techs to proceed with installing the cone filter. I think that they are more anxious to get me on the road with the car. Hah!

Default Rev on, Capt'n Col!

Capt'n Col, I hope that you're enjoying your fast ride... wahoo!

Capt'n Col was very helpful to me when I was considering what kit to purchase, Stage I or Stage II, plus which engine. Thank you, sir.

Jeff remember what I said you have to follow the instructions to the letter. This kit has been very well thought out. I feel sorry for you as I know what you are going thru wanting it to be done. It will be worth the wait.

Default Cone filter

OK, I have confirmed that the techs that are doing work to my car this weekend are moving ahead with the installation of the cone filter through the fender well area, as AVos instructs. They confirmed that my original air box allows 2 square inches MORE air in than the 3.5" intake piping. That still doesn't make up for the smoothed curved inlet area that is part of the cone filter. That should provide slightly higher flow.

Onward!

Default Upcoming videos

Like WhiteXKR had suggested, I'll be shooting video of the car from inside and out so that you folks get to see what it sounds like. One of my favorite videos will probably be of me pointing the camera at a buddy's face while giving him his first ride in it. I expect to be able to record him screaming like a little girl.

Default Your Christmas is coming

Hey Jeff.
Thanks for the kind words.
The other weekend I went for a drive with a good friend who has a Porsche problem.(he hasn't got a Jag.) Together we did a bucket list drive around the mountains in the south of France on a stunning clear blue day in the middle of winter, just below the snow line. Open clear roads and the most incredible scenery. My friend did get quite a surprise though, and as Clarkson said "his rear view mirror was just full of Jag"
When we did eventually stop for a break I showed him why his mirror was always so full of Jag. Now that is something I really wished I had recorded. And the answer to your question about still enjoying my fast ride is, Hell yes!
All your Christmases are nearly here. All of us that have been Avos'd have had to go through these same waiting pains. Your babies nearly here and when you hear that first whine you'll know its all been worth it.
I think then, all of us XKR boys will then crack out a cigar in celebration.
Best wishes,
Colin.

Not just XKR guys, some of us with XJR's would love this engine upgrade.
The problem is the more I read the XKR forum the more I want one.

Jeff I just wanted to let you know I thought of you today, I was out running an errand .When returning home I surprised someone in an R/T Charger. A middlie aged man was attemting to show his teenaged son how fast his car was, or in their case how fast it wasn't. It is always funny to see the reaction of others.
