Another don't do this Johnken post
Hi guys, it's been a while for one of these. Guess I w as due :-).
Yesterday I was getting out of the car, must have been distracted by my dog or something. As the driver door opened, my hand bumped (not smashed, not whacked) into the toggle for the door mirrors. SNAP! Well it doesn't take much to snap it off. Who knows if you bury this warning in your sub conscious maybe itll never happen to you. Of course I have to buy the whole switch pack to fix it! Yikes.
#2 a while ago I had to put the hood in service position. Then I got a few unexpected guests of wind. (What luck) it bent the area around the hole for the bolt in the hood hinge, I didn't think anything of it.
The other day I looked at the car more critically. Wow. The gap between the front edge of the hood and the rear of the plastic bumper in front of it has widened a bit! Closer inspection shows that the edge of the hood is raised a few millimeters. So, wind and the service position really dont mix well. But before I jump into this one let me ask: does anyone know where the adjustment point is ? Its probably obvious on the hinge but I figured asking is probably wise.
Thanks, John

Hey John! Gotta tell you I did sort of the same. After I successfully removed the door card to adjust the window I successfully put it all back together and a few days later somehow broke the door mirror control! Still there and looks fine but doesn't work at all! I think its a simple fix just haven't got around to doing it yet because the mirrors are in the proper position....at least for me!

Likely, not a single XK(or other car owner) has not made some stupid move that was later regretted. Maybe this thread should be extended so that all can admit to 'dumb moves'.
I have my share. Pulled the instrument cluster to install replacement LED, regular lights. Got distracted by phone call from daughter. Reinstalled the cluster with the original bulbs. Found the replacements on my work bench as I was cleaning up. O.K., now to start the entire process, including disconnecting the battery. Didn't really have anything else to do for the rest of the afternoon.(honest, no alcohol involved, until the second install).......

Yep..vertical service bonnet/hood and wind doesn’t mix .
Hehe,
Been there, done that. Don’t put the hood in the vertical service position in windy gusty conditions.
Still think your ejecting cup holder fiasco is better.

Ha ha, everyone - thanks for the smiles. You gotta laugh at yourself, but I'm starting to post under this headline too often! I dont know,
how long before folks read my directions, say to themselves "uh oh, this is John, um - better do the opposite!"
Of course I'm kidding.
You know what? It takes some of the sting out of these kind of things if it'll help someone else.
You all have a great and healthy safe day.
John
