Default Another one bites the dust.

A semi merged into my son's XKR this morning sending him uncontrollably into barriers at high speed. Every corner of the car was damaged, with some significant bending of the front frame. She's toast.



He's very sore but otherwise uninjured.

Sad end to a lovely XKR.

So happy he is OK, not always the story.


Good luck on finding another one. A good area to find one.

:-(, That damage is bad but at least the Son is OK. Like you said, "another one bits the dust" The ranks grow thinner each day. Hope you all are compensated well as the car looked great!

Indeed, glad to hear than your son came through with nothing but bumps and bruises....

I assume the semi driver was charged and his insurance company is responsible?

No telling on the insurance side. He was clearly hit as the photo shows. Notice the burnt rubber bits clinging to the bumper and side lamp from the semi's tire. My son didn't see anything but a burst of smoke (tire smoke I assume) before spinning out and hitting the wall hard. He did want me to mention that xkr airbags aren't like what you see in commercials. He described it as, "an aggressive shove out of the way." haha



evidence of a successful 'pit maneuver'.

Glad all were ok. Looks like motor may have made it through the wreck? Perhaps it will make it to another car some day.

I already had designs for an xkr-powered XJS (he has an 86 HE languishing in the garage), or maybe a transplant into my volvo S90. That would be a hoot.

At the end of the day I think he'll be moving onto a later model (2008-10) XKR coupe. We've been eyeing those for awhile.

Or maybe I can convince him buy a beater and put the rest of the settlement into finishing his e-type coupe. Mmmmm

Glad your son is OK.
Years ago in my XJS I was hit by a semi that changed lanes and did not see me. I was by his cab on the interstate and he did not see me in his mirror. These cars are so low and ease to miss in mirrors with all the SUV and vans on the road. He hit me 3 times before he got back into his lane. It was repairable damage and I was glad I was in the heavy XJS V12 and not my '75 Datsun Z!!!!!

Glad to hear he is ok .cars come and go he on the other hand you can't replace him . looks like he took one heck of a ride on that one.good luck on the new car hunt when he feels up to it .all the best Dan L

Yes sir. That car has been languishing in storage while I've been finishing my daughter's Porsche 356 restoration. They get all the toys, I do the wrenching!.

Haha. I've got three younger children asking, "what are you going to build for me? " requests include a Porsche 914 or Boxster in baby blue, an Eleanor re-creation, and anything with a quantum fusion reactor (10 year olds have a great imagination). Dad wants a C-Type replica, but as you see, I have to wait in line!

My son went back to the hospital and on a second review he was determined to have a separated vertebrae, dislocated shoulder and concussion. I'm still trying to figure out how you miss that on the first look.

Massive amounts of adrenaline likely kicked in during the accident and carried him through it. As his adrenaline levels gradually return to normal, his injuries become more apparent. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery with no spinal surgery required....

I hope your son recovers quickly and without surgery. When my Alfa got totaled I didn't start hurting until hours later and went to the ER and was told I had soft tissue injuries of the neck (whiplash) and of the spine. I ended up with several weeks at a Chiropractor.
