Antenna removal problem...

I read here how to remove the antenna and followed the directions...
Remove the external finishing nut...turn on the radio...pull firmly.
Well, when I pull it comes to a hard stop and sounds like metal to metal contact. I tried it several times with no improvement. I can slide the grounding/retaining sleeve upand down but she won't come out.
My replacement one has some tangs on the grounding sleeve. Maybe the tangs on the old one are splayed out and hitting something?
Any ideas before I take out the entire unit?
Thanks!

I had no problem getting mine out. Just as it went as high as it would go, I gave it a hard jerk straight up and it came out. In looking at the plastic gear cable I noticed it was not as long as the new one and determined that a piece was broken off inside the antenna motor. I had to remove the motor and open it up to physically remove the broken piece left in the motor gear chamber. I installed the new mast after re-installing the motor assembly as instructed. I did note that the teeth on the new gear cable should be facing to the right side of the car when inserting it into the shaft.

Like a bigger hammer, pulling harder worked.
The new antenna goes 1" to 2" too far into the tube. I got it from www.antennax.com, we'll see what they say about the situation.

How is that possible? The end of the antenna mast should have a cap larger than the antenna tube. Best to get an OEM one I guess.
p.s. Careful with the drain tube and grommet. When re-installing it, a little silicone on the tube and inside the grommet will make it a lot easier to re-insert the tube.

The end of my OEM antenna slips through the retaining nut. Mine sits flush with the top of the nut at the bottom of its travel but it will slide all the way through.
My motor stops when the antenna hits a hard stop at the end of it's travel or when it feels enough resistance going down.
The new antenna is simply shorter than the OEM one by about 2", thus cauisng the problem.
www.antennax.com offered no help other than to say they would be happy to take it back.
