Anybody who can help??
I have loved the xk8 convertable for a long time and want to buy one.. I am looking to stay between 20,000.00 and 30,000.00 It looks like I am between 1999 and 2002 miles below 50,000.. I want to know what year is better. Are there problems I need to know. I would like to use this car as my daily driver. I have seen a few adds on some of these Jaguars 1999 to 2001 with a new engine. Is it common for the engine to go up at 100,000 or is this faulty of the owner not putting in oil etc...I would really like some advice.. Thanks Spencer..

To avoid most, if not all, of the engine problems, Nikasil, tensioners, water pump vanes breaking, go for the latest XK your budget can handle. The engines of late model year 2001 have, from what I read, corrected those problems.
The Jags with new or rebuilt engines probably had the tensioners break causing the timing to jump, the pistons then collide with the valves and goodby engine.
Good hunting

The best years are 2002 - 2006. Reason better built engines little to almost no problems. I had a 1999 xk8 with 66,000 and never had problem with it wrecked it lol now I have a 2003 xkr SilverStone also never had a problem with it so I can't say. But from the changes they made to the engine from a 4.0 to 4.2 and getting rid of more then half the plastic in an on the motor they are a lot more durable?
