Default Anyone need Silverstone dash veneer?

Hey all,

Was perusing eBay, and came across this listing:

Jaguar XK8 XKR Silverstone Wood Interior Kit 8 Piece Kit RARE Dash Kit Navigatio | eBay

Its a full, perfect condition as-new set. I've never seen one come up for sale before for the Silverstone, so thought I'd post it here in case anyone was looking.

So, did another XKR die?

Oops, never mind. Ad text notes it was switched out early on.

Thanks 01 Silverstone, I buy spares once in a while, although my dash is in excellent condition except for the color is bleach not fogged, from the sun. which is pretty much normal on the smoked birds eye maple convertibles that I've seen. I'll keep a eye on it.

Now that would look fabulous in my cashmere interior.

How hard are these to install?

I personally haven't installed one, but I will be this summer! From the research I've done they aren't too bad. The most difficult panel is the passenger side airbag cover, as you have to remove the airbag to get the veneer off. But the center section isn't too bad (video on youtube showing how to remove that). The shift gate surround is easy as well. I can't imagine the instrument cluster panel or the door switches being that difficult either.

My guess is that the airbag cover would be the killer, especially if you need to tamper around with the airbag itself.

Removing the dash panels isn't very difficult. The passenger airbag cover pulls off of some snap retaining clips but is tethered so it doesn't go flying with the air bag explodes.

To untether it and remove it from the car entirely, you have to unbolt the airbag module because the straps attach under the module.

Just be sure to disconnect the battery and discharge the system before unplugging things. It is a pretty easy job and JTIS has a thorough procedure.

Charlie, what do you think of doing this on my coupe vs finding a 3 guage cluster to replace the nav altogether? My dvd rarely works, and I would not use it anyway.

There are a number of threads about modifying the Nav display or replacing it with something updated.

In my car I added a switch and an HDMI port in the console that I can use to connect my phone. With that I can use the phone GPS to display the map on the Nav display and play the sound through the stereo. Or watch movies. Or browse the web. Or do anything that the phone can do.

That works for what I wanted, but if you like the classic look of gauges, I can totally understand that.

Please pm me how you did that that for your phone? I am an iphone person.

Green wood, looks great. But I will have to choose between that vs changing beige seats to black (another thread may have a good deal on that and my driver side seat has cracked leafher).

It was one of the first mods (and write ups) I did after getting the car.

After debating between modifying/upfitting the factory nav with a new phone/GPS/etc vs doing the 3-gauge conversion, I settled on the latter. For me, it's just a matter of personal preference. I think the 3-gauge look is more timeless. But a modern GPS would have been nice. It's a tough call...

I love the 3-gauge look and with the RealGauge upgrade, it has become a valuable tool to monitor the blue cat. So I think you will be happy long-term.

My phone has a handy GPS function that works just fine and you can always upgrade the radio if you want more bells & whistles.

I think so too. I've already upgraded the radio, so I can plug my phone into it and the audio from Google Maps comes through my speakers. That's how I ultimately decided on the 3-gauge conversion. Upgraded radio + 3 gauges is the best combination I think.

For that green wood, what did people do about their steering wheel?

Did they have full leather wrapped wheels?
Mine is that lovely light colored wood, but I'm concerned it won't match with the green wood. Thoughts?

The Silverstone wood is technically grey-stained Birds Eye Maple. In person, its more grey/yellow colored. Very unique. The Silverstone cars came equipped with an all-leather wrapped wheel with contrasting red stitching.

I am having my dash redone in a Black Stained Ash veneer, so I also had the steering wheel predicament.

3 options, from cheapest to most expensive:

1. Buy an all-leather slip-on cover for about $50. Not the best look, but very economical.

2. What I did. Find an all-leather replacement wheel. I got mine from JgaXkr on here. There are 3 kinds of all-leather factory wheels. First is my choice, the accessory wheel. All black leather, but perforated. Next is the "R" performance wheel which is simply all black leather. Third is the wheel from the Silverstone and "100" cars, which is all black perforated leather with contrasting red stitching. One of the R or Accessory wheels will be about $100-150, if you can find it (I looked for awhile.. I think JgaXkr might have one more still available). The Silverstone/"100" wheel is extremely rare. One on eBay now for $975 (crazy...).

3. Send your wheel off to Saul at British Auto Wood or Madera Concepts for refinishing in a matching veneer. Member Philhef is having his redone in Piano Black I believe. Will run you about $200-250.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know about X100 steering wheels...

The Silverstone wood is smoked when new it's actually grey. green would not go with the car at all. I think the green tint may be the photograph otherwise I could see how the person who had it installed might not want it. The red stitching is only on the Silverstone the 2002 X-100 had black stitching on the steering wheel.

Default Steering wheel info very informative

Thank you for those details. Much appreciated.
If I passed on the green wood, I'd get someone else's black leather seat covers and go for the black steering wheel. Now I've got some neat options to consider. Thanks!

I E-Mail him and he said yes indeed it has a green tint. It definitely would be one of a kind veneer kit. It may go real nice with a BRG XK
