Thank you to batroute for the research on the Acura mirror. I was a bit skeptical so I did some internet searching and I found the Acura mirror to be a close match as best I could tell. I ordered one including shipping at $96. I received it and installed it, It fits and works like a champ. Wiring: black to black, grey to grey and pink to white. Both connectors come apart easily with a little patience.

Again Thank You.

Default Replaced Rear View Mirror

I've had an almost flawless run on my 2002 xk8 for the past four years. The only problem was that the rear view mirror retaining ring/adjustment ball had deteriorated and would no longer hold its position. A temporary fix of some adhesive left the mirror in a fixed position. After reading this forum, downloading the photos I purchased a replacement on Ebay and finally got up the nerve to tackle the install.

I took the advice of others and took my time. Sprayed wd40 over a period of several hours and lightly tapped with a screw driver. One push down as advised and the mirror was off. New one installed in reverse. Total work time: 30 minutes.

Many thanks to all who advised on this project.

Default Free Mirror Install at Auto-Glass Place

Great thread! Same issue on my '99 XK8. Got a replacement mirror online but didn't feel very comfortable trying this myself after seeing quite a few broken windshield reports. So I called my local location of an auto-glass chain and they said they'd be happy to change it for me for free.

They did warn me they could break the windshield in the process but I felt like that was less likely than me doing it. So I took it over and in about 30 minutes I was good to go with no charge!

My replacement was easy, just through the old mirror in the trash, taped and tucked the wires in the headrest. Much better look.

Default Replacement rear view Mirror

hi all,
I am located in Japan and I've contacted both Sybesmas and Radar-mirror but so expensive for oversea ($144 +shipping)

My xk8 (97) has 4 wires but uses 8pin plug(gray).
been looking at 2nd hand ones on ebay but 4wires on 8pin plug are hard to come by...
It would be great if I can buy spare off someone here or good suggestion for me. (I am planning to visit UK in a month time so could collect the item then?)

regards

Have you checked the Yahoo auctions page? I know of a couple of XJ's being wrecked on there at the moment, the mirrors from those might fit, but with a bit of luck you might be able to find an XK one

Thanks for this write up!

While my mirror is fine so far, the black split ring that goes on the mirror (over the pivot ball) popped loose. The previous owner said it (the mirror) would have to be replaced. However, looking at it today, I do not see anything broken, so I will attempt to remove the mirror and reinstall the split ring.

Right now, the mirror just flops around on the pivot ball, and is very annoying.

I confess, I just put a regular mirror, manual dim flip switch up in old xk8 for like $22 bucks. I used dental floss to remove the old mount, before scuffing the residue off with water and blade.

The wiring harness was neatly tucked away in the headliner, looked factory!

My email from Sybesmas said the repair will not include the auto-dim feature.

Default non dimming

if they say that it won't dim, then maybe sybesma is finished with that, might as well get a plain ole cheap mirror for 20 bucks.

Default Sybesmas

Stacy at Sybesmas says the auto-dimming feature should work after their fix.

I got a second hand mirror from a later car with a different plug but with a broken mount. I was able to split my broken mirror and the newer one and just swap the mirror/electronics. The internal connections were the same. The extra plugs on the newer mirror are not for the mirror so no issue changing over

Smile Mirror repair

Sybesmas fixed and returned my mirror in less than a week. It looks and works like new. Thanks to the forum members for the easy removal instructions. It's any easy job if you're careful and patient with the removal. Install is a breeze. I've done the ABS module and the mirror in the last month. I could not have completed either task without this forum.

Crap. I dropped the torx head screw that holds the clip on to the pedestal, and suffice to say, it's gone forever.

Anyone have the specs on that screw?

Default Rear View Mirror Wiring

I'm hoping someone can help me. My old mirror melted, and I got a replacement off of eBay. My old mirror has the yellow connector with lots of wires, and the new mirror has the blue connector with only 3 wires (black, brown, and a light brown/tan colored wire). Which of those wires connect to what wires on the yellow connector inside the overhead panel? I want to cut and splice into the old existing yellow connector.

Probably would've been easier to just get your one repaired through Sybesma...
but hopefully you can find the info about wiring you need here
