Aux Port

Aux Port
Has anyone tried to splice an aux port into the wiring from the CD player to the audio system? This would allow you to plug a Bluetooth receiver into the aux port and connect to your phone’s Bluetooth transmitter and play songs through your phone.
I am hoping the wiring runs under the console, because that would be a convenient location to have the aux port in the bottom of the console.

It's possible although very fidley. I have it on my to do list although it's something I don't look forward to doing. You need to get to the AI-NET bus inside the CD changer and splice in an RCA left and right chanel as well as the ground cable which surrounds both the left and right chanel wires. It's very fidley to do. Gopi's :HOW TO: AUX install (alpine premium) Complete instructions! - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
Alternatively there is a cable that you can buy from the US that connecets after the CD changer but it's over £100 so rather expensive just for a bit of wire and a connector. Discount Car Stereo > iPod Adapters & Interfaces > JAG-CDR Aux input with Changer retention for Select 1997-06 Jaguar XJ and XK
The problem with both of these solutions is that you need a working CD changer which isn't likely as these cars get older and older. The CD changer wasn't very good in these cars and seem rather fragile. The cassette deck on the other hand is rather reliable so I used a cassette to 3.5mm jack for a long time. Sounds like *** but it works well enough.

You can easily splice into the cable - there is no need to open up the CD player, although some people have done it that way. I opened the cable up near to the plug at the CD player and then ran a new cable back to the centre armrest. You could also fit a bluetooth receiver in the boot near to the CD player rather than having to run stereo cables.

I do have a cassette with a Bluetooth receiver that you simply place I to the cassette player and it picks up your phone’s Bluetooth and there you go. The one problem is that it runs the cassette
player and there are notices not to run more than 90
minutes or you can burn up the player.
I would think by splicing into the CD player wiring after the CD that you wouldn’t have to turn the CD on and the Aux port would provide a signal straight to the radio.
I am trying not to remove the radio to install a aux port. However it seems that may be the easier way to go.

I'm sorry to say that I can't look now but there is a seamless product that plugs directly into the CD player (or amp can't remember) that channels BT right into the OEM system. I hear (no pun intended) that its perfect and works like if ya had factory blue tooth. The way I understand it is that you can't use the CD player anymore but for me, that won't be a problem. I'll look later and circle back if I can later.

Yep, that is the one. Easy install on my 98 XK8 and has worked great ever since. I pulled the magazine out of the CD changer so it doesn't keep trying to load something. Screen says "no magazine", but no issue. After initial connect, it automatically connects to my iphone whenever I start the car. Highly recommend!

I’ve tried using one of the FM transmission devices in the past , but was never satisfied with the sound quality. As with all anecdotal experiences, one can never be sure if personal expectations are
well matched to the technology in question. Were my expectations unrealistic ?
No such issue with the Discount Car Stereo Bluetooth product. I coo op ups not tell the difference between a CD being played or the Bluetooth input.
