Default Backlight bulbs for climate control

One of the bulbs was out on the backlight on the climate control module on my 1999 XK8 so I pulled out the module. Got to the bulbs fine but wanted to see if there was a better source for bulbs than my local Jaguar dealer. My idea was to refresh all the bulbs as long as I went to the trouble of pulling the console and everything out and I find there are two larger bulbs with blue shrouds for the temp indicator and like seven smaller bulbs with green covers for the buttons. Jaguar wants like $13 each for the bulbs and has to order them! Anybody know if these are available from Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc. at any cheaper price? Unit is manufactured by Denso in Japan - have to believe these are fairly common bulbs.

Thanks,

Mark

Here is some information posted by another Jag owner that may fit your requirements.

Dash panel bulbs source

http://www.autolumination.com/74.htm

Scroll down about 1/3 of the page and look for "Neo - Wedge Instrument Panel Bulbs 10mm (3/8") diameter x 13mm (1/2") high"

They have them in several colors, including blue which is what Jag used. These appear to be a perfect match for the bulbs and bases used in the door switches, the trip computer selector switch and possibly the console control switch illumination. They also have the same base in LED bulbs - which would be great for longevity I would think.

I do think the neo-wedge is the right application, Type A or B (get one of each!), but if the color is off, the whole console will look weird.

I recommend, if you try this, get the white, and pull off the little blue sleeve off of the original and try to reuse it. That should get you the right color. I dunno, maybe get a green too... just in case.

This looks great - Thanks!! I am going to order enough to redo all the lights in the center console section and then take it apart again and re-do them all at once so I dont have to worry about it.

FYI on dealer pricing - they quoted me $13 each. Just in the climate control there are 10 bulbs - almost $150 with tax!!! Think there are at least 6 more in the ASC/Fog Light/Hazard Light setup....

in the auxilliary row, only 4 of that same size...the hazard and the DSC are different bulbs altogether. Don't worry about them.

Maybe I missed it (several times) but I can't find a 10mm x 13mm. I only see a 10mm x 12mm. Same bulb/base that you are talking about???

Thanks
