Backrest questions for a XK8

Every button on my passenger seat works, except for the position to incline/raise the backrest. I can only lower it. It's a fault in the seat module as it would not work on the drivers side either.
Question: if I disconnect the backrest, will I be able to adjust it manually like the good old days?
Thanks

Not an unusal problem. The module can develop crack in the copper traces. Search for module repair and there are some good how to's and also some links to others who will fix it for you. To be absolutely sure its the module swap with the drivers seat module. if everything works then its the module. If it doesn't work then search for the threads on the potentiometer repair and adjustments.

Last I had a seat apart I don't believe there is a simple way to manually turn the adjustment.
You would be able to access it but unhooking the bottom of the squab cover and lifting it up on the back side but the motor seems to have some kind of braking mechanism to hold the position.
Not sure what damage might be done if you tried to force it to turn but I can say that it won't go easily.
The safest way, if you ever plan to fix the seat, would be to swap the modules.
You might also be able to directly apply 12V to move the motor, but there's no guarantee that the motor is meant for direct DC voltage as opposed to being driven by PWM by the module or something like that.

If i understand all that you have written you have the Seat Back reclined and it won't raise. you have swapped modules and it still won't raise. The seat back reclined with the motor so i don't think the motor is burnt. That only leaves the seat switch as the culprit. I think the switch packs are the same for driver and passenger seat.

Have you looked at the seat selector switch? This is not a switch for an xk8 but may be worth looking into.

After swapping the modules, the back rest worked on the drivers side, so it's the module. (a note to those who want to do this, the connectors on the wiring component have a little button that must be pressed to unlock the module from the wiring. It's on the underside of the component.)
I did find, and spoke with, a guy here in San Diego, Darrell ? 858-649-9090, that will fix a broken circuit for $50. (got his name from this forum) if there is physical damage. He does this for a living and is a retired Navy electrician.
Since an electric seat can't be manually adjusted, this is the cheapest option.
Thanks to all who have responded.
