A couple years ago I was shopping for an XK8 to replace Black Beauty that died in an intersection. Of about 8 cars that I looked at, only 2 had the vented batteries. The correct battery has a vent tube toward the front and a small hose vents the hydrogen gas through the floor board.

The release of a highly explosive gas into the sealed space of the trunk is a bad thing.
The windows will reset them selves????

You will need to do the reset. To do this you push the window down button and hold until you hear or feel a click. Then push the window button for the window to close and hear or feel the click. This should be done when you are in the car and the door is closed. The window should operate properly by opening a slight bit when the door is opened and close when the door is closed.

Would it make sense to leave the window (driver's) down before you remove the battery? Since there will be no power to lower it for the door opening and closing?

Seems my battery is getting weak.

Last week, came back from a one-week business trip, and the car almost didn't start. Windows lost their programming. After that, all ok.

Tonight, went to dinner, came back to the car, and it was in Park...no crank, only dash lit up w/ the radio. Moved the gear shift to N and it fired up. Figures.

Think about a problem too much and the car will hear you.

Well, my mechanic (British Auto Specialists) thinks the no-start in Park is due to a failing switch in the gearshift assembly, gives me a little hopes in that if it is a 'rotary' switch, there may be an adjustment that will save me some coin. Instead of hijacking this thread, I'll start another one of my own.

Just replaced my battery with a Duralast battery from Autozone, model 49 DL, came with the vent tube attachment right in the center facing quarter panel, easy swap out for $97 plus tax and battery fee.
