Best LSD for 99 XKR
Hello folks
Advice please?
I know it is an expensive option but I was wondering if it would be worth splashing out on an LSD for my 99 XKR coupe?
I cant believe that Jag would not fit one as standard but as Ford was skint in the 90s then their accountants probably deemed the basic ESP and traction control with a standard open diff was sufficient for a GT, just to save money...
It is ok on bone dry roads when you dont hoof it of the line but can be a bit jittery when it gets a bit damp or when you have a slightly heavy foot at low speed...
I have researched the Q
Quaife which is supposed to be the industry standard but have also heard that ATB LSD's are not really suited to auto boxes and can be a bit of a handful...
Any advice greatly appreciated...
Cheers guys 👍👍

Firstly, you’re in the wrong forum.
But, I had the Quaife installed in the s-type, and the xjr. Hands down, Best modification I ever made.
And though late in the game, I am trying to get it done for the xkr this winter.
To manage the car with the mechanical LSD does take practice. But once I got the feel for it, I found the car significantly more nimble and more manageable.
But I’m not a drag strip person. I can’t comment on that. I am a windy road, in all the weather person… and thats where the new solution shines for me.

The LSD would be really nice but for the money I could buy a project car... maybe I will just stick with originality... I have a nice 03 Golf TDI front wheel drive 130 diesel which I use in the winter when the Jag is tucked away in the garage..
My mechanic bought an RX8 with a knackered rotary engine for 500 quid and bought a 2.5L V6 Skyline lump for another 500 quid...it fits in well and works with the Mazda gearbox..
A bit of fettling and a bigger turbo and intercooler and upgraded springs and brakes and he managed 450bhp out of it for £3000 total...
Its a monster...with the light fibreglass body
I think that Japanese cars are built for modifying on a budget...
I know that the XKR can be modded to a certain extent with the LSD and the upgrading of the lower pulley of the Eaton screw S/C.... but its difficult to remap....I remember the XKRR concept car that Clarkson drove on Top Gear around 2004 with a manual box... but that would be a hideously expensive conversion I think...
I had it on the dyno and it was 346.8 BHP with no loss of Torque from the factory setting at 3.6k RPM
That is less than 1 horse loss a year from the 367 quoted from the AJV8 factory figures.
Maybe I will stick with original spec....
Anyway thanks for your advice...
Very best regards

I've moved your question from XK/XKR (2006 - 2014) to XK8/XKR (1996 - 2006) forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.
