Bleeding brakes - Low fluid after changing valve block/ABS Module

Hi All
I am doing some work on a friends car, its a 2002 XKR Coupe. He brought it to me as I was foolish enough to mention that I had completed the re soldering in my own 2001 XK8 ABS module solving all the usual issues that brings. He said that his was displaying the same traits and I said"Bring it round I will have a look".
That was nearly two weeks ago and I have solved the following issues so far:-
Alternator not Charging - New Alternator (Recon unit 120 gbp)
No Air duct to Alternator - New Air Duct
Low Oil pressure - New Oil pressure Switch.
The ABS module had been changed by a garage for a replacement unit from a scrap yard - as it turns out it was the incorrect unit, I spoke with the local Jaguar dealership and they confirmed that the VIN group should be the same number as my XK8 so I ordered another unit from ebay with exactly the same numbers as mine - the dealership agreed the part number and so I went about changing it.
Here is the problem, like an idiot I did not use a wedge to hold down the brake pedal as I removed the Valve block, so I lost the fluid from the reservoir into my waste container. I did not think this would be an issue as I have a vacuum bleed kit. I completed the sequence and now I cannot get rid of the message "Low Brake Fluid". Also the Horrible "Incorrect Part Fitted" also will not go. I have completed a reset, connected my OBD scanner and cleared other messages but I do seem to have a couple of stubborn ones. The "No Cruise control" is also annoying me but I think that will be related to the incorrect part issue.
So in short - do I just keep bleeding this thing to clear the Low Brake fluid message. and is there some miracle code that will make the system accept that I have changed the ABS Module.
Thanks for you inputs in advance
Mike

It may well be that you don't actually have low brake fluid. I didn't wedge the brake pedal down when I did this repair, and had no issues with the brakes afterwards.
The fluid level sensor connects to the ABS unit. Double check the connector to it, and also the multipin plug on the ABS module itself for possible bent or damaged pins.
See this thread from jshannon:

What are the codes that are still being thrown?

Thanks Michael I will check the ABS pins in the morning, the ABS unit is throwing the "Incorrect Part Fitted" nonsense and also the standard ABS light and ASC failure. The ABS unit did not throw this code before I removed the old incorrect unit. I may end up having to do the soldering job on this new one. Thanks for the info I will keep you posted on how I get on,
PS the brakes are still a little spongy so another bleed will be required.
Thanks
Mike

You've eliminated some possibles withh the $0 checks, so I'd follow Bob's (motorcarman) advice above before pulling it apart again.
Here's a couple of his posts explaining more detail: If

If you can access the Jaguar diagnostic kit somehow it will save you the cost of a dealer visit (assuming that they know what to do with an 'old' car these days)...

I have looked into the IDS,SDD software. I was hoping to run it on a laptop in a virtual machine, however the issue seems to be the year of the car, the information I can find on the software only says it is any use for 2005 onward. Have you had any success using this with older vehicles eg 2001/2.
Thanks again for your thoughts on this, it is much appreciated.

Hi Guys,
A quick update on where all things XKR are at the moment. I purchased the SDD IDS software and repurposed an old laptop, it cost me a new one for the wife but at least I have a dedicated garage one now. After a lot of issues setting up the software I managed to get the SDD IDS software to work on the 2002 and 2001 XKR and XK8. The SDD reverted to IDS and then led me to check a few issues, it immediately identified an issue with the ABS CAN BUS, I reset the module (And that removed the dreaded low brake fluid, but not the "Incorrect Part Fitted or the Traction Control not available and ASC not available.
So the computer can talk to the system via the CAN bus to reset the module but it would appear that it still has some of the old issues that the two power posts bring when they suffer from dry joints. I have decided to ask for your combined wisdom one more time, do I reset the Engine management module in the hope that it will "see" the new ABS module on CANBUS?. Whatever I do I will have to pull the ABS unit and do the soldering first to clear as many codes as possible.
Regards To one and ALL

The Module for the AJ27 (4.0 liter engine) 2001 and 2002MY (12th VIN digit A or F) cars is JLM21323.
The module should have 9 BLUE colored actuator coils.(6 pipes on the actuator valve /motor block)
The number printed on the case will be LNF2210AB or LNF2210AD.
The number printed is NOT a Jaguar part number.
ONLY the DTC C1095 will flag with faulty solder joints at the power pins to the motor.

Hi Motorcarman,
The number is the AD suffix, I confirmed that the VIN group was the same as my car with the local Jaguar specialist. So it would be reasonable to assume that as it is the same VIN group and should have the identical part Numbers JLM21323 (confirmed by Dealer) that the LNF2210AD represents the same part, even if it is not the Jaguar Number.
Where I am seeking help is how to get the CAMBUS configured to accept the part as the correct part - Where is the option in the IDS software to configure a new part to the CAM BUS. I have configured the new part (ABS MODULE) and that cleared some of the codes. like low brake fluid. Excuse my ignorance but DTC? My car flagged ABS, Traction control and ASC not working until I did the solder job, that is why I am pulled towards it.
Regards
Mike
Still happy but losing my sanity slowly with each new Jaguar code

Hi All,
I have been working away from home and the mighty big cats for a while, I returned with renewed vigor and attached the problem again. Here is where I am now:-
The IDS software arrived and I can use it to access the systems on the XKR, that is the good news. I tried resetting the ABS system by telling the car it had a new module, it made no difference. The Cruise Control, ASC and Track control continue to display as defective and the only upside was that I was able to reset the ABS unit and it now does not show Low Brake fluid.
So I opened up athe ABS and did the solder fix, just to satisfy an itch really - I believed you guys when you advised it was not that but as I had run out of options I went for it anyway. No change.
My list of defects are as follows:-
No Track Control
ASC not available
Cruise Control Not Available
Engine in Protection Mode _ limited to 3000 Revs I think
ABS light illuminated.
I have bled the system and took it for a quick spin to try and cancel the ABS but no joy.
IMany thanks for all your help but it is now off to the Emergency room for sick Jaguars (Jagcare Ltd) They will have the life support it needs.
Best Regards Mike

I would try a replacement (good used) module.
You don't need to install the module, you just need to get it close to the connector and plug it into the harness to see if it communicates.
I used to repair these modules at home when I worked at the dealer and to clear the C1095 DTC I would take the repaired module to work with me and find a compatible car, plug it into the harness connector, clear the DTC then reconnect the harness to the fitted unit in the car.
I have all the cars for the 5 different ABS modules at my shop at home now (my own collection and salvage yard) EXCEPT for the 1997 XK8 Traction Control and EXCEPT Traction Control.(JLM20130 and JLM20129)
The X308 sedans use the same ABS modules EXCEPT the 1997 JLM20129 and JLM20130. (one year only)
Here is the compatibility chart again.

Hi again
The XKR has the JLM2I323 (X100 from VIN A00083 to VIN A30644) and (X308 From VIN F00035) Witlr Traction Control 6 pipes (9 Valve) LNF22IOAD - Exactly the same as my unit on my car, I checked thjis with the local Jag dealer and he agreed the part number is correct. It would be really unlucky to have received another defective unit, I am almost tempted to swap my one in to clear the code. The new one is obviously communicating as it cleared the low Brake fluid DTC,
