Bonehead Power Steering Screwup '01 XK8
The steering was making a whining noise so I stopped, checked the fluid and it was low. So I topped it off with half a small bottle of STP power steering fluid. 300 miles later, I checked it again, a little low so I went to auto parts store for fluid. That's when I found out, it takes Dextron Transmission fluid. I bought some and topped it off. The car is going in for a new high pressure Power steering hose on Wednesday. The question: Will the power steering fluid do serious damage to the system? Can I still drive it between now and Wednesday? Geez, I gotta start checking the manual more often.

No worrys chaz, I have customers that accidently put washer fluid in the power steering reseviors and don't even realize it until they bring it in for service. Turns the fluid milky, but doesn't seem to cause any adverse affects, and after a complete flush they never come back with any ps problems. You should always top up with the factory reccommended fluids, but i seriously doubt you've caused any harm. Most of the old fluid will be drained anyways upon hose replacement.
