Default Bonnet Badge ("Hood Emblem")

Someone decided that my bonnet badge would be better in his trophy cabinet than on my bonnet (grr.)



My questions:

1) Will it do any damage to the car if I leave the hole there uncovered? Will water/ whatever get into someplace important and do nasty things to my baby?
2) How difficult is it to fit the replacement?

I have ordered the part, but I really don't fancy taking the whole engine compartment apart to fit the star washer thingy to the back of the badge. (I'm not a do-it-yourself-er)

Just get 3M's two sided tape available at most auto supply stores clean surface with a cleaner, such as Prep Solve then just apply, ( your new emblem may already have the tape on it.) I don't see water getting in your holes creating any problems.

for a good 6 years, i dreaded waking up because of the numerous times i found my hood ornament missing.....albeit being a leaper and more desirable than the badge.

never the less replacement is no big deal. you can do the 3M double sided tape approach.

had my rear xkr badge taken by scum..if i had seen him do it he could have shown his mates a xkr badge up his rear

It shows the reverse of a new badge with the spring clip. No need to use this clip as the double sided tape will hold it on.

Also, since you have an XK8, you can reach through the grille above the chrome strip to put the star shape locking nut on. When I did the write up Graham posted, that is what I did. Now with an XKR grille, it's a bit tougher and I would just leave it off.

Thanks all. Now it looks like it may be within my technical grasp, I just have to decide if I should leave the badge off, or give the little horrors another go at removing the new one. I'm not sure that I want to spend £100 a month filling up their collections, but I hate to leave her without a badge.

Decisions, decisions.

Even if you decide not to fit the badge, it's worth buying one now.

Apart from becoming more difficult to source, the UK price looks to have jumped by 50% in the two years since I last purchased one.

I much prefer the cleaner look of a badgeless nose. When I had my bumper repainted, I asked them to fill-in the mounting holes w/ flexible epoxy resin.
