Cool Boot light

I give up. I surrender. I yield. Anyone know how to turn the boot/trunck lights on? My bulbs are good but there's no light.

I just looked in the JTIS thinking maybe it was a fuse. The schematic shows the power for the two trunk lamps comes straight out of the body processor module and it isn't fused between the BPM and the lamps. However, it's rather unusual in that the switch is actually after the bulbs. There should be 12 volts on the bulbs at all time. Tale a multimeter and see if you have 12vdc in the socket. If not, you either have a wiring problem, or there's a problem with the BPM.

trunk micro switch most likely. I have one of those little plunger-type switch triggers on the underside of the boot lid...do you? Try moving it in and out...if not working, gonna have to find that switch and replace.

Here's the schematic for the trunk lamps. The glove box lamp and vanity lamps are on the same circuit, so see if they are working. If not, you probably have a BPM problem. If it's just the trunk, my guess is that you either have a problem with the switch (on the top right of the schematic), or that diode right before the switch is bad. It could be a broken wire somewhere, too, but checking for 12 volts at the lamp sockets will tell you if it's a broken wire.

Default boot lite

Thanks to all. Brief check (thanks for the diag, Rev) suggests the BPM. We sure it's the acronym for Body Processor Module? I can think of a few other definitions. Thanks again.

When I recently entered my XKR in the Concours d' Elegance, they had a specific Judge that checked out all the "Mechanicals". When he opened the trunk, one of my Boot Lights did not come on. Before I could freak out, he said that his XK8 did the same thing all the time, and a good smack was all that it needed to come back on. I figured that I had nothing to lose, so I did so, and sure enough it was back in a flash! I would check all the connections and scuff up the bulbs a bit for better contact. Hopefully, it will be something that simple.
Good luck,
Brian

Default Speaking of things electrical...

2001 XK8.
While putting on the boot the other day, I happened to notice there is a wire and connector -- one of those little plastic things with a pin-plug receptors -- attached to a wire that doesn't go anywhere. It is located in the well between the rear bench and rear quarter panel, on the drivers side. I'm sorry, but I don't have wiring diagram handy and I'm sure the terminology I'm using is incorrect. Let's just say, if you busted through the area behind the drivers seat where the speaker is located, it would be in there -- a wire and connector not attached to anything.

Does anybody know what it is for? Not a crisis; just a curiosity

Can anyone point me to where this micro switch is located in the trunk? No trunk lights, everything else (lights, etc) work except in the trunk. Maybe I'll just give it a good smack as Brian suggests...

Are you saying that the glove box lamp and vanity lamps didn't work, too? Because if they are working, I don't think there is any way it could be the BPM (By the way, it's B P M. Not BFM )

The connector is for the right hand drive vehicles airbag sensor on the column behind the door. The little screen on your right side back column. the wiring harness is universal for left or right hand drive cars

The switch is attached to and just beneath the trunk latch, all beneath the outer plastic housing. To remove the housing, slip off the tailight covering inserts on each side, undo the screws, pop off the xmas-tree fasteners, and off it comes after a little jostling of the trunk's side panels. The micro switch is in a rectangular plastic box enclosure that you can pull off the latch OR you can pry the switch out of the box by raising the two prongs holding the box lid to the box body. I recommend the latter.

Thanks so much, Boris! You've given Dave and me the answer to the earlier question from the earlier thread below from Sept: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=41774

Default XK8 Trunk Light

Thanks for the great info, what is the purpose of the diode? I assume to protect the BPM?
