Default Bought an 04 XK8

I have been over in the XJ area for a few years now. I have an 05 VDP that is an awesome car.

My wife got ride of her convertible and bought an SUV now that we are grandparents. So we talked about how I did not really need that big old VDP and we should get another convertible.

I spent quite a while searching/waiting until I found one that suits both of us.

I sealed the deal on a red 2004 XK8 today. Has approx. 38K miles on it. I am flying to pick it up tomorrow morning. I will be driving it about 8 hours to get it back home to the Tampa Bay area.

A few of the sellers pics...

Anyway, my nearly perfect condition 05 VDP is going up for sale. I will post it in the classifieds in a couple days. Whoever buys the VDP will have a car they can brag about to their friends for a long time. more about it here

More on the XK8 when I get back. Looking forward to me and that car getting to know each other.

I like that it has the 3 gauges and not the navi screen. Enjoy the drive.

Looks great.

Eight hours in an XK8 - sounds like the perfect day to me.

Not to me, Graham! I wouldn't be able to stand up, much less walk....

But hey, enjoy the new car, rothwell....

I felt that way too, while shopping for my XK8. The '01 I bought has NAV, and THOUGHT I was compromising, but to my surprise I now Prefer the NAV. Not that I use it (or that it's update' able), but the "01 has the illuminated Leaper That I really enjoy, specially when I have a guest in the passenger seat after dark !

The NAV was an expensive option, and the Leaper is so much more satisfying than the clock displayed on the newer models.

With the automatic transmission and the way the temp gauge stays centered, I enjoy the carefree operation, not being paniced by monitoring gauges, like in my other performance cars....lol

Put these two together and only Jaguar enthusiasts could definitely pick out the older vehicle.

They both look great.

Default We just picked up a 2002 with 28000 miles

WE have been looking also, and picked up a 2002 XK8 with 28,000 miles up in Sarasota about 3 weeks ago.

They could not find the rear bumper jack cover so I'll need to find one.

Samanator,

Are those chromed wheels aftermarket chroming or was it a factory option?

My wife likes bling ...

Congrats! It is nice seeing so many reds here as they are relatively rare in my area (Los Angeles). I think I have seen one Salsa Red convertible and just yesterday I saw a Salsa Red coupe. That color really looks great on the car.

The chrome finish wasn't offered as option in the UK but could have been in the US.

If you want your standard finish alloys chromed, this could be of interest:

JAGUAR CHROME PLATED WHEELS

Actually they look more like high polish with clear anodize to me, but I'll have to confirm on the window sticker when I I get it from the original owner.

Samanator,
That is one gorgeous car. Of course, I'm partial to Carnival Red. So little mileage, so much more time to enjoy. In a 100,000 miles or so you'll catch up to me, and mine still looks like new. Enjoy, and welcome to the club.
And Rothwell,
That's also a beautiful car in the red, also one of my favorite shades (see my avatar) Enjoy as well.

Maybe I should know this, but what's the extra button for below the J-gate on the 02 model, next to what I assume is the Sport (sorry Satan) button?

Its the Cruise On/Off Button. Later models had the Cruise "On" at all times.

Hello friends. I am currently test driving a beautiful 01 XK with 53K miles. I love the car and the body is flawless. I noticed a couple issues inside that I am trying not to concerend with.
The material around the windscreen and post will need reworked. You can tell it is coming off. The removable headliner is stained in several places and the drivers side window drops about two inches when you shut the door. That being said they are asking 11,900.00 for the car. It has been locally owned and I have the records from the local dealer. I know the tensioners will need to be replaced since they have not done that and they are most likely the first generation. I have a 01 XJ8 that I love and plan on keeping. Does 11,900.00 sound fair with those issues or should I pass?
