Default Brake pipe fitting

I need to replace the passenger (left side) brake pipe (or a chunk of it) from the ABS block to the rear of the car but the pipe is unavaible to buy (that I can find).

Does anyone know what size of pipe, fittings are needed (especially to the ABS block) and if they use a double or bubble flare on the connections ?

When replacing the front flexi brake pipes I had to cut off the lock nuts. I thought they were M10 x 1mm but they don't fit onto the new flexi pipe, any idea what size they are (new pipes didn't come with locknuts) I suspect it is 3/8 BSP but don't want to order some and find they are wrong.

Thanks.

Hi tberry6686,
Regarding the hard piping, the XK8 / XKR uses 3/16” (4.76mm outside diameter) Steel Brake Lines. I see you’re in the UK so it will need to be British Standard EN 12449.

When I researched for my replacement, I used Copper-Nickel alloy tubing (commonly called Kunifer) which has superior corrosion resistance. The section beneath the floorpan which runs front-to-rear is most susceptible to corrosion and typically needs replacing.

It is unusual to have to replace the 'whole line' all the way from the ABS unit and most owners instead utilise the existing joint in the front left wheel arch (behind the liner). See pic and confirm if you have this?

Depending on your requirements, you will also need some 3/16 Pipe fittings such as Female brake nuts M10 x 1mm, Male brake nuts M10 x 1mm and Brake pipe joiners. There is an eBay item that sells pipe and fittings as a kit....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cupro-Nic...sAAOSweW5VBtAO

You will also need a 4.75mm DIN ‘double hit’ Flare Tool, a pipe cutter and pipe bender...!

Hi,
see PkWise has answered your question, perhaps you can answer one for me. was going to change my front flexi hoses and like you had to cut off the securing nut to release it, then when I offered up the replacement hose (Pagid) found it to be about 50mm short and would pull on full lock so returned it to eurocar parts they checked and it says that it is the correct one for the xk8/xkr standard brakes at 415mm but mine is definitely longer by about 40/50mm, if you have time can you measure your old and new hose please as i cannot seem to find a replacement locally

Unfortunately its the piec from that joint forwards that is in a bad way (and about 3 inches beyond the joint). I plan on using Kunifer for ease.

Thanks

Hi TBerry6686 again,
You might have some fun if it is the one that goes behind the alloy subframe towards to front then turns sharply though the inner wheel arch then up behind the abs unit, I have just changed mine. with the abs module and support bracket removed it is doable, you might be lucky as if you look at the jaguar spares page it shows two right angle fittings going through the wheel arch so you might just have to connect into that one, mine where one piece going through rubber grommets. you will definitely have to use kunifer as there are a number of sharp bends in the pipe which would be very difficult to do in steel. It is all doable though and when you make the correct shape quite satisfying, still have not identified my problem with short hose though, good luck

I'll measure my new pipe today and get back to you but it is a third party pipe. I've already thrown out the original as it was in a pretty bad state (20 years old original pipe)

Just measured one of the new pipes and it is around 425mm with male ends. The dealer has given you the wrong part number - that is for a traction control pipe. The correct part number is - C2N3107 (replaced part no - MXD5670AC). - https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/ Item 10

I decided to go with steel braided pipes, got them from here - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184310017...m=184310017090

The supplied banjo bolts do not fit (looks like no supplier has the correct bolts except jaguar and they only sell them with the rear pipes). Quality appears to be pretty good for the money and arrived within 3 days. If you get the whole set you will need to re-use the old banjo bolts and will need 2 x 2mm copper washers to seal the rear pipes to the calipers (1mm washers won't do it)

Ah thank you,
yes you are right it is totally the wrong pipe number they gave me, as you say it is the one in the engine bay at top over suspension mount.
have had a look at the ones you bought on ebay they are about 15 miles from me so think will pay them a visit so thank you again.
As an aside just back from mot and all ok.

Hi. Perhaps late to the party, but I'm doing a front suspension overhaul and bought some two Delphi LH6059 from "a well known auction site" at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELPHI-LH...72.m2749.l2649
These look identical in all respects to the old ones and were delivered for £11.95 each.

Also - if you want to change a section of steel pipe, the common Sealy pipe flarers are great for kunifer, but not suitable for steel. A hand-led tool dedicated to 3/16" works brilliantly. This one worked for me:
