What is global open and global close? Resetting the windows worked great either way.
Also, I tried scanning the Jag for the suspension system failure and the ABS code and even though my Solus has European Jag is not included. I did get a couple codes through global OBD2 but they were undefined. I will look them up tomorrow.
She made her first drive today and was smoking some through the exhaust but after a fill up and around 10 miles it cleared up. I'm guessing fluids dumped in the exhaust during chain failure.
JagV8 thanks for your help the windows work with the global open and close.
My students and I went over the Jag just to check everything again and I was smelling a little coolant. Found the upper radiator hose was leaking just a little drip or two. Other than that it is running like a top. I'm not a Jag expert or a European car expert either but this car driving it around feels very solid. I've heard the A drum in the transmission might be another concern with this car, and I'm not sure what that is yet, but this car shifts great. Is it worth, as a preventative, changing the transmission fluid and does it take fluid that is Jaguar specific?
I would like to hang on to this car and with updating the chains and the A drum issue are there any other concerns prone to this car? I'm still trying to get the stability failure and ABS light codes.
Thanks again and you guys have been great. My next big project is going to be a Toureg probably in the same boat as the Jag where a tensioner failed and who knows what we will find. The Toureg has been here two years but the guy had put close to 2k in the all wheel drive set up before the chains let go. I figured it would be another good project and was pretty highly optioned with 22" factory wheels. The V8 configuration is pretty similar to the Jag in the area of the timing chain anyway.
You should replace the main pressure control valve in the forward valve body, with either the ZF upgrade or the TransGo replacement. It only takes about one hour with the pan off and doesn't require removal of the trans. Lots of info if you do a search. Trans.fluid discussions are also easy to search. Replacing the A drum with an upgrade is a fairly simple and inexpensive also.
Replace the fluid and the filter. I've read somewhere that ZF stipulates a change based on age alone at 8 years, but that doesn't seem to have percolated out to the 'sealed for life' dealerships...
ZF uprated the A drum some time ago in response to failures out in the field, but there is discussion out there that the real culprit is the main pressure regulator valve. This was also uprated by ZF, and Transgo does its own version with rubber seals. Not claimed to prevent failure, but to reduce its likelihood.
Jaguar's line is that fluid is LT71141 and nothing else. There are direct equivalents (VW & Peugeot), but be guided by the folks on here. I managed to get LT from the local oil company at a sensible price so haven't researched.
On my list of jobs to do. I have all the parts to hand except this one

<br /><br />My ZF5HP24 repair manual states that the fluid is to be replaced every 10 years.<br /><br />On PAGE III there is a statement.<br /><br /><strong><em>Important:<br />The transmission is filled with life-time oil.<br />The oil does not have to be changed until it has been in use for ten years.<br />The transmission may only be delivered with the oil type and oil amount specified in the corresponding<br />parts list documentation (see ELCAT), otherwise there is danger of gearbox failure.</em></strong>
I'm going to attempt the transmission update when I'm off over the summer. Any thoughts on where to get the parts? Summit Racing carries transgo I believe. I should change the main pressure regulator in the valve body and the A drum is what you guys are saying?
I just gave the Jaguar the final check and other than a couple loose valve cover bolts and tightening a loose radiator clamp my students have done a good job. SInce the Jaguar coil covers dried the harness out so bad I decided to leave those off. This week I'd really started driving the Jag more. I need to find a local shop that can scan for the ABS code and stability control failure. Still ticked that I paid for European software from Snap On and it doesn't do Jaguar. This car isn't really a power house but it feels really solid to drive. I threw a few CD's in the changer the other day and I can't believe how good the Harmon and Kardon speakers sound with the factory sub in the back.
Great to hear a happy ending and another cat saved. Well done to you and your boys.
I would certainly change the main presssure valve as it can be done at the same time as the filter & fluid change. Replacing the A-drum is a bigger job as the trans has to come out so, if you're not getting rough shifts, I'd be tempted to leave alone. See what's in the transmission pan when you do the service and take a view then?
I sourced the Transgo part from RockAuto as they didn't charge stupid money for shipping.
Good to hear I'm not the only one who finds the coupé HK system more than adequate
Wish we had such a after school activity when I was at school. Here my wife’s friend son comes over to help me on my car esp. when jobs might need sets of hands.
I’m amazed that schools nowadays concentrate so much on theory that they disregard real world skills like general car mechanics. You’ve filled in a big hole in your students’ education.
Glad to hear you got it going.
Like Michaelh commented is when you do the Transgo upgrade check your pan for metal fillings. This can be a sign of the A drum starting to fail. I posted a thread on doing the Transgo upgrade.
