It's been so long since the last update!(cant believe I haven't done much...)I've been busy moving out of current garage and into Garage Apartment (1st Floor Garage, 2nd living and bedroom)
Here are some updates:
- Fuel System is completely out
- Engine bay is nice and clean (gonna repaint it once I'm settled in)
- Adapter plate for Transmission to motor is ready
- Motor mount is ready (using original Engine mount)
Todo:
- Collect batteries from the port
- Get electronic components

Once I'm back from my easter holiday (Mid May) I'll start working on the project again!
I've recently run into problem of not being able to remove the intermediate muffler...workshop manual describes it as if its a piece of cake...but its stuck between the rear axle...
I've already removed every exhaust pipes and mufflers.
rui, Are you saving it for anything? Cut it in half with a cut off wheel or a saw blade.
I take it you are using the rear of the Jaguar to drive the wheels.
Very interesting project, my interest will be how you get all the electric gadgets to work after you get it rolling.

Wayne> you are completely right about getting all the electronics to work...I'll spend quite a lot of time on power steering, vacuum system etc...
May I ask why you are keeping the transition? Normally, EVs don't have that as the engine gives the same power at any RPM. (simplified). Or is it to get the acceleration

Simple answer:
It is more efficient to use trans in low speed situation (town or city driving).
mostly only need to use 2nd or 3rd gear. Use 4th gear(1:1) for highway.
Complicated answer:
Use of Manual trans will be the most efficient use of motor that I have. However, depends on the motor types (such as the one Tesla use) the trans wont be needed.
To save money on cost, I decided to buy the motor that is suitable for Jag but not so efficient at low rpm (therefore need to use the low gears )

PS:Booked my flight to UK in August. Gonna get new parts and visiting few mates.
This has slowed down due to busy work schedule(I work with TS040 for those interested) and delay of my electronic items for the conversion. Although, I must say, I could have spent more time on the project.
I"m currently thinking of doing manual transmission swap once I've got the car working. I've done alot of readings on it so I know pretty much all about XKR-R and T56 staff. Just cant get hold of anyone who has had an experience with it. (Any advice would be appreciated!)
Also I've been busy fixing my Electric bike which I've also made.

This is all the batteries that goes into the car!
The cardboard box is the same size as one of these battery.
Planning to make a steel frame case with about 50 of these batteries.(150kg!)
I've got time to clear out the garage and sell removed items like exhaust system, fuel system etc..
Here is interesting fact of the day:
I've removed the tank when the car told me it is empty. As it turns out, there were 10L of gas left in the tank(that's interesting to know)
I haven't included in picture but there were a lotof dirt(sand?!) inside the tank that came out with the remainder of tank.
I've also included the pic of the garage. it's starting to look little more professional

Food for thought...before adding all that weight into the trunk, if I were you, I'd look into some heavy duty new rear shocks, heavier duty rear springs and new rear upper shock mounts. There are 3 parts to the bushings/mounts in the rear upper shock area on each side.

Thanks! I've been thinking about an upgrade to that area as well as cleaning up. However, for now I'd like to work on getting it moving.
As far as I've calculated, my before after weight will be almost the same.
I've removed the tank, exhaust, spare tire etc which overall would weigh 150kg (given tank is full).
I will be adding 160kg so not too bad.
and of course, I'll be adding about 200-300 at the front which is about the same as V8 and other things I will be removing.
PS; Working on CF hood as well! (getting it done professionally by retired auto designer who has designed Mazda to Mercedes!)
